3U RM-4014 Ring Modulator - OPA2134 for TL072?

Post by SmartBits » Tue May 31, 2016 4:38 am

Is it worth upgrading the TL072 to an OPA2134? Did this with my AMSynths AM8040 as this was a suggested upgrade, but I'm not sure it will make a difference in the Ring Modulator?

Probably not since the bulk of the sound of the ring modulator will be coming from the transistor array. However, you can certainly try it out. If there is to be an audible upgrade then changing U2 will have more impact than U3.

If this is for the 5U version then don't fit C2, 5 & 12. They may make things unstable when using an OPA2134 - not tried it though.

Thanks, I'll put in OPA2134's then, maybe do a comparison with TL072 eventually. Just ordered the RM-4014 and 2 VCA's for euro format, plenty of building fun to look forward to! :cloud:
