Modular Addict has MFOS PCB's!

Post by Huba-Swift » Thu Sep 08, 2016 9:32 pm

Maybe I'm a bit of a bozo for not realizing it until now, but modular addict now has seemingly all MFOS PCBs in stock and for sale! :sb: I'm excited, I'm gonna be building a 10-step sequencer and a Sound Lab Mini Synth. Did everyone else know this for the longest time?

Oh wow, I was wondering about that. I'm really happy that these are finally in stock somewhere (etching double sided boards is not as much fun for me).

I was confused. Had VOS and MFOS confused in my head. And they both make a 10 step seq, so easy to confuse!

I still want to finish a VOS 'system'. But the MFOS stuff has been on my mind for a while. They got some interesting modules. Though it's mostly frac sized no?

The modules are not format specific, most can be powered by +/-12V or +/-15V and you can make whatever kind of panel you want for them.

Edit: I'm not familiar with VOS and what kind of modules they make, care to link me to some of their stuff?

The PCBs are quite varied in size, they're designed for easy construction (I guess) rather than to fit a particular format. Find a board you're interested in, then work out how you want to mount it.

Hey, 1 day late isn't too bad... I rarely visit gearslutz though, I was on electro-music.

Already ordered 3 VCA boards to go with the one I've already put in my Eurorack system, and while I was there I also included a nonlinearcircuits ADSR312 board.

Nice, those ADSR312 boards look quite interesting.

I just noticed that they don't have the 16-Step Vari-Clock sequencer PCB's, hopefully they will start stocking them soon, I really want to build that project.

I already have one working, they are cool. I have a bunch of Nonlinearcircuits stuff, really like it.

VOS is Voice of Saturn. It was kind of how I got from modding pedals and audio DIY to SDIY.
None of the links to the curious inventor webpage, blog or store seem to be working right now. But Synthrotek seems to be stocking PCBs of the 555 osc and 10 step sequencer still.
http://store.synthrotek.com/Voice_of_Sa ... uencer_PCB
I'm pretty sure there were a couple of other things, like a filter at least?
The build guides were not oriented towards modular systems, but individual console cases patched with 1/4" cables.Though I think there are some dotcom versions.
oh here is a brief blurb:
http://www.matrixsynth.com/2013/04/voic ... lator.html

It's funny in hindsight. I had this elaborate plan to build 19" rack mount versions of the VOS kits and avoid ever getting in to euro, frac or dotcom. I'm a total OCD mess sometimes and I know I have a habit of getting in too deep on stuff. Like how I had 4 Musicman basses and a ton of Mesa Boogie bass amps at one point.

So for a few years I studiously avoided getting into modular.
Fast forward to 2016 and I've got a couple racks of euro and a few VOS 19" units that I still haven't finished.

Thanks calaveras, those look neat.

And just so everyone knows, the few MFOS pcbs such as the (vari-clock sequencer) that Modular addict doesn't have right now, should be for sale early next week!

I have them here! Just was a mad rush to Knobcon last week, and didn't have time to get everything up on the site. They'll be up later today or early tomorrow once we're done unpacking.

Question : is it a one-time thing (like, family putting the PCBs in stock and then nothing afterwards) or is it a more permanent thing?
Really want a Soundlab Ultimate for years but I'm so broke at the moment :'(

Will you also offer the bundles (such as the MFOS super modular bundle) including rare parts?

I'm really glad to hear the amazing MFOS stuff will still be available in the future. My avatar pic shows my SL Mini Synth Plus build, btw ;).
... why buy it for $100 when you can build it yourself for $150?

The proto area on the mini synth PCB is/was an excellent addition. Impressive! 8-)

My 10-step sequencer pcb and sound lab mini synth pcb just came in  What should I build on the proto area? Oh, and btw, Modular addict still doesn't seem to have the 16-step sequencer pcbs in stock. They said they would have them in stock a few weeks ago :hmm:

You can buy mfos pcbs from the uk from here;

http://www.soundtronics.co.uk/mfos-bare-pcbs-en/

Not actually bought any myself tho.

edit: apologies, they seem to be out of stock on everything. oops.

Tempted by the vocoder, seems to be the cheapest and possibly easiest vocoder to build. But my backlogs huge and im trying to reduce it.
