Attn anyone who is getting "invalid session" errors - please log out, clear your browser cache and then log in again. If the errors persist for you please make a post in the applicable thread in the "Forum Dicussion & Requests" subforum. Thanks. STILL working on the logged out and session timeout issue - have a couple new strategies I'll be trying over the weekend. We will get this fixed! Thanks for your patience and sorry for the hassle.

Author Rutt / Etra vector scanning effect with LZX modules - how?

Hi, i need to achieve this well known visual effect made by Rutt / Etra.
What setup i need to make it?

I consider to buy LZX modules - which one i need exactly?

Thanks for an advcie

The Navigator module will be an essential part of a Rutt / Etra patch. You'll also need a Visual Cortex to general the ramps used by the Navigator. Then add whatever modulation you like.

If you're using an oscilloscope for the vector display, you might also want a Passage module for boosting the Z signal. Feed the Z signal into the first stage's 2 inputs, then feed the output into the 2 inputs on the second stage. Each stage will double the output range, so you'll start with 1V, get 2V from the 1st stage and 4V from the 2nd. The 3rd stage will take that up to 8V, which should be enough for most scopes.

Mine likes a 10V range but I can still work with a 5V by adjusting the contrast. That's how I tested my scope last year, using an audio modular. It looked pretty good but it was only a test, not using video. Now I have my rig set up, I should get my scope out of storage and I'll do a proper video test. I want to be ready for when the Navigator is released...

[EDIT] A BSO Triple Video VCA will also be helpful for adding some of the Z signal to the X and Y ramps. You may need another Passage to do that mixing. E.g. X and Z to a VCA and then mix the output with the original X signal. Then do the same for Y and Z. The 3rd VCA can control the brightness and the 3rd processor (which I called a 'stage' earlier, because in that context it was a booster stage) on the Passage can mix the VCA out with another signal for modulating the contrast.

[EDIT2] d'oh! d'oh! d'oh! Passage. Not Pathways. d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

look here: https://www.lzxindustries.net/faq/#vector-synthesis
(i wish i had known that FAQ existed before i bothered lars and so many muffwigglers here about a basic rutt etra patch!)

alternatively, instead of using a visual cortex from the above suggestion, you could do it with these LZX Cadet series modules:

Cadet I - https://www.lzxindustries.net/product/cadet-i-sync-generator/
Cadet III - https://www.lzxindustries.net/product/cadet-iii-video-input/
Cadet IV - https://www.lzxindustries.net/product/cadet-iv-dual-ramp-generator/

you will want some mixers to mix the signals into eachother. a mixer suited for video is ideal but i've had somewhat decent results with a variety of eurorack audio mixers

The FAQ recommends a VBM, which is not currently available, but you do most of the mixing functions by chaining multple Passage modules. You can also use multiple Cadet Processor modules.

[EDIT] d'oh! d'oh! d'oh!

any amount of mixers, crossfaders, VCAs and LFOs will drastically improve capabilities.

hi guys and thanks for your support. the visual cortex is the key. the info about the upcoming module sounds promising.

Are you planning to run the rescanning of NBA players in a studio or game environment? Also, have you considered a virtual NBA game, using only electronic players, then processing that with the LZX? It could be quite powerful.

With the stakes lower this time around thanks to an influx of money and mutual cooperation, there’s a real opportunity to launch the NBA into its next incarnation. This could mean turning players into real partners in the league, and not just employees. This could mean solving the arena financing problem. This could mean transforming the D-League into a real farm system at last. This could mean finding ways to give every franchise a chance to compete every season. http://www.buynba2k17.com This could mean anything. There are so many smart people on both sides - the sky really is the limit here. We don’t know if that’s in the cards in 2016. But simply having the opportunity for innovation in the absence of panic is a blessing. As any NBA fan knows all too well, things could be much, much worse. Someone was playing a game of NBA 2K17 and broke into the open with Jeremy Lin for a wide open layup.
