Roland Kuit
Transformation of fear

Kurt Schwitters Ursonate is a testament against war, nationalism, protectionism and establishment. In Landscapes of a voice, Roland Kuit seeks to transform his own fears into beauty by combining Schwitter’s poetry, as part of departure, processed through Kyma with visuals by Karin Schomaker. In the face of his fears that progress has come to an end and the only thing left is degradation, Kuit seeks to create disruptive art, creating a peregrination through the human soul, finding new values in an impellent quadraphonic terrain of vocal spectra.

Trajectories in the vocal spectra

In times of big changes this work of sound art as a tribute to the Dada movement.

Kurt Schwitters Ursonate makes a perfect example against war, nationalism, protectionism, racism and establishment. The reason I use his sound poetry is to transform my fears to beauty. My fear is that progress has come to an end. What rest is degradation. So how to create art on ruins of society?
I will create even more disturbing art. By creating a peregrination through the human soul, finding new values in an impellent quadraphonic terrain of vocal spectra.
We can consider the speech of man as a train of monoliths, vertical sounds as spectral accumulations of sine tones. Roland Kuit created spectral tilts by technical means and these data traversing into a three-dimensional fields. As various forms of movement - migration. This can be random, or, take place according to algorithmic structures.

GRUIS / GRIT is an exploration of polarities in both sound and image of the solid material of stone. Resonances and deflections. Sublimation vs Consolidation. Macro-space vs Micro-space. Roland Kuit explores the effect of impulse responses in connection with the massive material of stone and space. How will the solidified atoms sound? Karin Schomaker explores space, movement with layers using modular synthesis in image creation.

Album Rietveld Pavilion - Roland Emile Kuit

This open structure was designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1955 for Sonsbeek Park in Arnheim for the exhibition of small sculptures. In 1965 it was rebuilt in the sculpture garden of the Kröller-Müller Museum on a site Rietveld himself selected. According to the principles of Neoplasticism, Roland Emile Kuit invented sound and elaborates upon it. He engages in research as a ‘sound architect’. On this album Kuit balances on the interface between research, architecture, music, sound art and space. Neoplasticism and sound converged in the pavilion.

A Light and Sound Installation by Mischa Kuball at the Jewish Museum Berlin

The Jewish Museum Berlin is exhibiting res·o·nant – a walk-through light and sound installation by the Düsseldorf conceptual artist Mischa Kuball. Kuball created the installation specially for the new exhibition space on the lower ground floor of the Libeskind building.
Roland Emile Kuit’s Amalgamation is part of the Jewish Museum of Berlin’s res·o·nant. In Amalgamation, one-hundred superimposed spikes of sound of different frequencies and micro durations are synthesized; these bodiless spike impulses resonate in space, creating reflections back and forth between speakers and surfaces. Every reflection is like a sigh of the wound the spikes create. By acceleration, these sounds and their reflections become one.
When can we expect another performance in the Netherlands?
Roland Kuit
Somewhere in September as I'm in and out of the Netherlands it's fine tuning all.
Love to hear you perform again. Last time was somewhere in the '90s.. Some Nordmod meeting, also with Rob Hordijk, if I remember correctly.. Keep us posted!
Roland Kuit
I will thanks.
Among them on the Modular Meeting was RH. I choose for a different direction after writing Laboratory of Patching. The Illustrated Compendium of Modular Synthesis. Also good to see other synth masters are using these described concepts in teaching and/or even build dedicated hardware. More research in computer techniques ahead and as a featured composer at Donemus, Publishing House of Dutch Contemporary Classical Music.

Sonic art and environmentals

Composer and sonic artist Roland Kuit has been exploring and broadening the language of sound for over 25 years. In search of new forms of listening Kuit started to create synthetic sonic environments in the ’90’s. Resulting in sound exhibitions in art galleries followed by publications in art magazines as l’Orbe and Avenue Magazine, Sound On Sound Magazine and WIRED. To free these sonic concepts from the traditional speaker boxes Kuit began the transition of his sounds into installations:

1/ Paris (for Orbe magazine nr. 9. Music machine), Roland Kuit,1998

Roland Emile Kuit is a composer of contemporary music whose works can be purchased at Ircam from the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris. This classical musician uses the flute, the harp, the bassoon, but also the direct sound recording (atmospheres of public places, interviews …). He also uses a computer with echo chambers with frequency modulation to work the sound as one carves the clay. The original audio CD of 20 ’32 “entitled Paris traces the wanderings of Kuit within this capital. The sounds of the Metro, the words of the students at the university campus, the winter and the melancholy of the lonely bassoon distorted by the computer are all distinguished.

2/ Amsterdam (for Avenue Magazine, uitgave #5 VOL.2 Amsterdam inside out), Roland Kuit, 1995

The canals as a blue waterline though this piece. Pigeons flying up and the sound of their wings morphing to the cadence of a street organ. The bells of the Wester tower and tourists. The Vondelpark and markets salesmen. F.C. Ajax football supporters and the harbor control. The water of the canals closes this city scape.

3/ Topographic City textures, Roland Kuit, 2018

Scanned city topographics from a morphed and annealed Paris and Amsterdam. Modified spectral sonic textures as a sonic landscape.
