Lorre-Mill Double Knot Analog Synth

Post by woVERTICES » Sat Dec 31, 2016 5:52 am

The Double Knot looks fascinating...has anyone had any experience with it? Has anyone interfaced it with a Serge or Buchla? The potential appears to be immense.

Thanks,
John

I have one. I combine it with bugs modular, works and sound great. Also work well as tiny drum machine.

Do want. How often are they produced, and is the waiting list very long?

I was pretty much set on getting one, but after he raised the price its a bit too expensive for me. Seems like a really nice device though

I got mine back in December and I'm in love. I use it with my Plumbutter and benjolin with great success. I second the tiny drum machine comment. The FM is spectacular too.

Hey there
I think it would be completely fantastic if Double Knot users could give a couple of simple patch examples, or maybe like a "getting started" video
I'm not understanding too well the sequencers section for instance. ASR are a new notion for me. I've had Serge before, but more "classical" modules...

Also, are the envelopers triggers normaled to whatever bit out of the sequencers ? And I see no VCA, so where are envelope outs supposed to go ?

I'd like to study before my DK shows up !!

Thanks in advance, cheers !

I really love this synth, at least thus far.

it is both very easy, and very hard. For me at least, it will require study - not just figuring out what each of the jacks do, and how to put them together, but how to mold them to my taste as connections become more complex.

this may be bullshit, but (trying to articulate an unformed notion) it is a really nice combination of interesting sounds w/interesting rhythms and modulations, and the ability to enslave other gear to its will, and simultaneously be enslaved.

it's kind of a Satanic rhythm machine - I don't see it (maybe it can be done well, somehow) as a drone machine, in a very broad sense of the term.

but hell - i've never been against rhythm per se. in any case, in a sympathetic musical system - powerful sequencer like the koma, or the fenix, and other interesting synths who obey it (tried my borrowed dominion one a couple of nights ago, with pleasing results), it seems to me that the potential of this device (in an 'experimental' context) is rather large. and with complementary fx? damn.

and with 2 of these things? my second one (check perfect circuit, maybe they have more in stock). I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time studying them - how to implement them in a deeper sense - not just knowing what the connections do, but strategies to improvise and make them musical in the most subjective ways.

just babbling really, but, I mean, FUCK VINTAGE. there are some really creative people who are taking advantage of current knowledge/technoogies, and making shit that i prefer to any vintage instruments I've used. (my experience is more limited than many here)

obligatory mention of the ocs 2, and hello to the people at Modal - different kind of machine, but I personally wouldn't want some old vintage analog/hybrid instrument over it at all. ok. back to drinking, smoking, soon eating, and playing with these very fun toys.

Mine arrives tomorrow. Can you blow it up by patching it wrong, out to out etc?

I am also skeptical about it even though I have not tried anything wrong yet. Says it is not recommended to feed it negative voltages so I am still careful with the Bugbrand. Only got it yesterday though. :guinness:

Nice!
I've got a Rollz-5 coming during in the next week I can't wait to pair with this. My double knot loves being paired with the Tetrax. It's also really fun to use the DK as a master clock,. set up a patch where the clock changes speed and send the clock out to my Keystep, or EHX Clockworks to control other things in weird timings! Just picked one of these up second hand in the UK and had my first group jam with it this afternoon. I really like how you can clear the shift register and reprogram it on the fly in the middle of a jam. I was Clocking it straight from the Euro and running it through a Strymon Dig, lots of variation achievable just adjusting the pitch of the 2 ocscillators and the amount of FM between the 2 oscillators.

this entire thread was based on a core of DK - some with 1, and some with 2.

Can't embed the playlist because that's not currently working, so I guess I"ll post the individual tracks. Of course, my tracks suck, but are shown as a counterexample to everyone else's.
interesting: the wordpress format is working for individual tracks, but not (at least for me) with playlists.
