Went to the workshop and took pics in the back room. Some of these are being used in current Metasonix products, some I haven't figgered out a use for. The 17AB10/17X10s are kind of interesting for a really small and really distorted gtr amp but meh for other uses. 6BA11s are always "interesting" and 6AW8s can be used in 6GH8 circuits with some pin shuffling. 17JK8s would be great for a phono or mic preamp--maybe.

There's also a box of 6088 subminiature pentodes with really low filament power use. A real masochist could build a digital computer out of them (read more about that here) but they're too low in gain for much else. The same goes for the big package of 1Ж24bs. Should someone want to purchase these leftover subminiatures, or trade for something I can use, contact me yo.

Would still love to see a "mini-fucker/dwarf-pr0n" made out of those 17xx10 tubes.

Usually this is not a place of "magic". It's a place of me screaming obscenities at obstinate pieces of technology.

Some F-1s have cartoons hidden inside....

Quick, while the punters are traveling home from NAMM, post more pics of cartons of tubes!

Still working on that damn G-1000. The twenty-amp power supply wasn't big enough (tube samples vary a lot in heater consumption). At right is a THIRTY amp supply. Hope it's enough.....

Kind of interesting? Is this something you are thinking of making?

I mean, you got to use those tubes somehow. Miley Cyrus

On the left: the box Mouser sent me. Big enough to hold four guitar pedals. On the right: what was in the box. Four tiny aluminum standoffs, inside a zip bag which was inside another zip bag. Is the postal service or UPS bribing these companies to waste? Is it the packaging manufacturers? Or is it just incredible stupidity and cheap fuel?

A very long time ago we built a custom rackmount dual preamp for Nicolas Levy in France (aka Muff user "askthedust"). He's now trying to find someone who would buy it from him. Unfortunately it was built so long ago I don't remember exactly what it did.....if interested PM us and I will pass on his email.

Thanks to Zerosum for having old pics of the Levy custom box. Now I remember: it's two TM-5s with a switching pwr supply, set up for "quietest possible operation". It was made in late 2010. The first photo shows the wiring before it was organized and bundled.

xposted from Facebook.....

So, okay.....a friend in Albuquerque recently tipped us to a screamin' deal. The guy was selling tubes on eBay but had no idea what to charge. In this case he was swamped and really desperate--he got these at a DRMO surplus auction in Ogden, Utah 20 years ago. No one wanted them so we scored a nice deal. He also thought there were 100 tubes in each bulk carton when there are actually 200. oops.

These are subminiature pentodes. Basically submini 6AK5s with 7 wire leads. The military was putting them in old avionics and radio gear until the late 1980s (millions of tons of old electronics were scrapped under Bush I starting in 1989) which is why these boxes were packed/made in 1979, 1984 and 1985. Late production.

Take a good close look---you will never see this again. The Raytheon factory that made them in Quincy, Massachusetts is now a Home Depot. Yep.
