Author recommend me a good contact mic pls
DonKartofflo
so im looking into buying a contact mic to use with my mutable ears eurorack module.
I am completely clueless about brands or how much i should spend.
Obviously im not looking for ultra high fi but decent bang for the buck and hopefully long-lasting build quality.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Leafcutter johns mics are awesome

These ones are good enough for BBC Wildlife and that's good enough for me: https://jezrileyfrench.co.uk/jrf-audio-supplies.php

Same here, both the Leafcutter and JRF piezos are very nice.
If you're on a really tight budget get some $1 piezos from ebay and wire them up to plugs.

along the same lines, any recommendations for specific high quality piezo discs (supplier & part number) for DIY contact mics? the last batch of generic chinese discs were disappointing to say the least.

jrf are very good, i second this.
but the DIY road here is a no brainer if you want to use more than one and experiment a bit...i use them as sort of cv-source as well, soldered a shitload of them, pretty easy. then you can use plastidip to protect them and make em waterproof. just choose good quality connectors and cables and you're good to go.
if you want to spare some hassle just buy piezo discs with short wires already soldered so you just have to solder wire on wire, because soldering on the crystal part might be a bit tricky (tho not so hard, just gently scrap the crystal part before soldering so it grips a bit more).
