Befaco Chopping Kinky!

Have you guys seen this yet?

I was thinking about building the Toppobrillo one, but this one looks really cool, plus it's smaller! And the "chopper" looks really cool as well.

(Though I can't figure out if the "chopper" is crossfade-able, or it's an "either/or" type of affair. It's still cool either way, but true voltage control would be even cooler).

Anyway, anyone going to pick one of these up?

Edit: make the Internet slightly less secure for everyone wink

It's a gate controlled switch, so definitely choppy.

Pretty cool combining a switch with zero crossing detectors thumbs up

I've always wished there was ZCD output of the WMD digital VCA so you could make patches similar to this Dead Banana

Ordered one direct, dunno how long for it to arrive. I really like my even VCO.

Quite original little module ! I love it !

Pretty interesting! So as long as the gate is present chopp puts out channel a, right?

It looks like that's the case! Though I guess it still constantly outputs A and B in addition to whatever's happening on the chopp output.

I'm sold on this. The kit is pretty inexpensive, and wavefolding + a switch seems pretty novel to me. This should open up even more possibilities in my small system (imagine modulating the wavefolding as part of an FM patch!)

Dear Diodes! Hope you like diodes. Yo dawg! Heard you like diodes. Here are some diodes next to your diodes.

Dang there are a lot of parts in this thang.

This thing is dense. The resistors on the left are nearly touching the trimmer.

As far as the tabs on the pots go, I cut off the index key, the stand offs and pre-trimmed the support legs. When it came time to fit everything, I set the front panel with the jacks only. Then put the pots on and pulled them up tight to the panel with their locking nuts soldering only the pins.

I'm trying to decide between this or the more controllable (but only one folder and physically larger) Doepfer A-137. Hmm.
TheSolenoids
Mine gets here on Friday. This will be my fourth folder. I had told myself, "no more folders." But this guy is just so kinky! Really, I can imagine it being controlled by two envelopes and just killing a bass line. I'll let you know.

Looks very interesting

There are separate outputs for folded A and folded B, but there is a separate chopped out between them.. So essentially, 3 outputs all at once..

Hey any verdict from the guys whose CK's were still in transit at the time of this thread? If you all are experiencing the same holding pattern that I am buying direct from Befaco in Spain, perhaps yours hasn't arrived yet either LoL. I think they ship by literal "ship" as in the Pinta, Niña and/or Santa María! Boat

But seriously note to the wise, see if you can request something faster from them than Registered Mail unless you've got a couple of weeks on your hands to spare!

So has anyone had a chance to mess around with one yet? Any new youtube or soundcloud samples out there? I actually can't wait to get my hands on mine. The suspense is just killing me!

Not really a demo, just a little test after I built it. Sine wave from a doepfer 110-1, shitty phone audio I'm afraid.

Its my first folder so don't know how it compares to others but I'm liking it smile
misterphoneman
Ahhh nice! Yeah Befaco's goto move seems to be primarily folding sine waves so I'm trying to hear what other OSC's sound like if you happen to have any of those kind of examples. I mainly bought it to fold a Telharmonic which I can't wait to hear the results of that! I've got a Disting which has some wave folding capabilities but the timbres seem basic (for lack of a better word) compared to what few demos I hear from the CK.

Mine finally cleared NYC customs Sunday night (after sitting there for several days) so now it's making it's slow trek across the country. But for some reason USPS.com doesn’t give updates on Correos tracking numbers. So maybe I'll get it this week, maybe I won’t?? confused I figured till then, I’ll just live vicariously through you guys lol

Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

The Befaco demo is very good. Looks like a really cool folder - love the pseudo digeridoo sounds at the end!

Awesome man, thanks for uploading that!! I will definitely be trying out some of those tricks when(ever) mine finally arrives.

Btw, I hope you're taking something for that cough! Dead Banana LoL
misterphoneman
And just like that, I go to my mailbox and look what I find! The universe must've heard me complaining LoL. Man the postal system in Spain needs to connect their tracking system into the rest of the world! But none the less, I’m glad to finally get my hands on it and with Ornament & Crime releasing their v1.3 firmware update, I’d have to say “Today was a good day” cool
