Joranalogue SWITCH 4 - Performance Switcher/Router

Post by joranalogue » Thu May 18, 2017 7:14 am

Hi all,

Excited to finally announce my first module!

Image

Designed with and for performing artists, Switch 4 delivers a hands-on signal switching and routing solution for your Eurorack modular synthesiser.

Quickly mute audio signals, trigger envelopes live, select modulation sources on the fly... With custom dual-action toggle switches, an intuitive interface and sturdy construction, Switch 4 will prove just as useful on stage as in the studio.

The bottom switching section includes four lever-actuated toggle switches, to make or break the signal path between the inputs and outputs. These switches feature a dual action: latched upwards, momentary downwards.

The four input signals are also sent to the top routing section, where two rotary switches allow you to select the signals to be sent to the matching outputs. Here you'll also find dual-action toggle switches, for added versatility.

Finally, all signal paths are buffered, avoiding signal cuts when shorting a jack during patching or severe loading effects when driving many inputs. The high-end components provide exceptionally low noise and distortion, so Switch 4 can reliably process audio, control voltages and gates/triggers.

Q: are the inputs normalled together downwards? The arrows/triangles indicate that to me....

Yes, they are! This means it can be used as a kind of 1-to-6 switched signal distributor/multiples as well. Or any arbitrary combination of switching and routing you like, depending on how the sockets are connected.

Just when I was on the hunt for a good switch module. 8-)

This looks ace.

LOve the idea!

Does it have some kind of "pop reduction" that prevents cracks and pops to occur when switching?

Nope, no pop suppression, for a few reasons:
1. This requires delaying the switching until the next zero-crossing of the signal, so the module needs to be able to detect the zero-crossing and switch electronically. This would make it much more complex (probably digital) and expensive.
2. It would interfere with switching/routing slow signals, e.g. CV and gates, which don't cross the zero often. So there would also need to be a way to disable this feature, globally or per switch, again adding complexity and probably ruining the ergonomics.

Many of my testers use the module regularly for switching audio, and I haven't had any complaints about excessive popping.

Wow! I love switches and this one looks really good. I love the above section idea, could be really nice with a small logic module on the side with two inputs ... hmm

Thanks for your kind words! I have several other modules coming up which are great fun together with Switch 4, but nothing I'm quite ready to announce yet. ;)

For those visiting the Belgian Modular Festival, you can get your S4 at an introduction price of just €99 instead of €120. They should pop up at dealers worldwide (to be announced) the week after!

If you had only posted this a couple week earlier, it would have saved me a bunch of grief and disappointment in trying to do something similar with other modules. Looking forward to getting one (anyone want to buy a MUTE4 ;) ).

:sb: let us know when this hits the USA. I have been waiting on this unit since day one. The momentary switches sold me.

Received my Switch 4 the other day and I got to say that it's a solid, well built module that does what it says. So many uses, I love it. Good job on the offset switch design. It makes it easy to fit fingers in amongst the mess.
