Grendel Drone Commander V1 sync examples?

Author Grendel Drone Commander V1 sync examples?
chrisdermo
Are there any examples out there using the clock out on the classic drone commander to sync a drum machine? Or another synth or something? Anything? Can't find anything using the clock out for sync at all!

If anyone has the ability to make a quick demo syncing a drum machine to the clock out I'd be super appreciative! we're not worthy

I dont have my DC anymore so I cant give you any sound examples unfortunately, however I will say the clock on my old v1 took a minute to "stabilize" after I changed the clock speed. It didn't change in a linear and predictable fashion, it would kinda hiccup, run fast, run slow, and within maybe 10-15 seconds it was steady again. I have a feeling it was more irregular with more drastic tempo changes but I dont remember for sure. It was actually one of my favorite things about the DC and added a lot of character to it, but might not be best if you are trying to have a rock solid drumbeat going along side it.

This track is mainly just a Monotribe synced to the GDCv1:

The GDC features quite heavily on the whole album and with the Monotribe synced to it on a few of the other tracks too.

This is the appeal for me too, I want the beat to get messed up with it coming eventually to a stable state!

Ah! This is awesome. And the sync works well! Thankyou. I'll be downloading this album for sure when I get home nanners

Daren, the transition in and out of that triplet feel on rendalx is super cool!

Well then, seems like you may be looking the he right place thumbs up
It truly is a box of sonic delight.

Yep! Now just to nab one of them! Or wait for the new pedal version to come out.

On special request: The Grendel Drone Commander syncs wonderfully to the Metasonix D1000, if you put an EG between those two.

Another option of these two instruments is to (double) trigger an instrument of the D1000 with the clock out of the GDC and to use one channel of the D1k as tube filter for the GDC output like I did in this video:

Edit: The clock out of the GDC sends a gate signal and not a trigger...

Thanks guys Guinness ftw!

I'd heartily recommend the Monotribe as a great partner to the Drone Commander, as well as the sync compatibility they seem to compliment eachother sonically as well.

@kbithecrowing I did that using the roll feature on the Monotribe it can be clocked slowly and the roll can be recorded at various divisions or multipications of the clock, a very cool feature and it allows longer patterns to be squeezed in between steps, so to speak.

@weinglas - delicious!

Great! Glad you found one! Have fun SlayerBadger!

It's glorious! I love the quirkiness with the speed changes clocking my drum machines. Will try get a recording up once I have the double knot back and can arrange something good sounding. So happy! Rockin' Banana!

This track is pretty much nothing but Drone Commander and a 606. (OK, and some OP-1 halfway through.)

Great track Nathan SlayerBadger!
This is really a good example that you don't need lots of gear or a huge modular applause

Though it is nice to have twisted

:edit: after reading through the PDF manual on the new DC Classic pedal I was sold and just ordered it. I will continue my hunt for an ammo can version still. Hopefully they will start popping up as the pedals get out to people. There are a number of really nice improvements on the pedal.

I would strongly consider doing a straight swap of my ammo can for a pedal once I've heard some demos (wanna make sure it really does sound the same).
I thought the pedals weren't available to order yet?
There's no clock in on the new pedal btw, and you can't process external audio with the internal oscillators as inserting a cable cuts the internals.

Yep, both correct. Gate in "mutes/un-mutes" the DC which is interesting. Few other changes mentioned in the manual were increased LFO speed range in both directions, filter cv input now blends with the LFO instead of disabling it, clock stabilized when changing multiplications, LFO waveform reworked to allow smoother shapes, and push/pull pots replaced with switches.

Can be ordered direct from Eric at Rarewaves. I should have mine in the next week or two and will report my experiences. nanners
