Test 3 is a purpose-designed tool for measuring voltages and currents in your Eurorack system. This means that just a single circuit board or module can now replace a convoluted test setup with multiple multimeters, custom cables etc.

Two push buttons allow you to cycle the value shown on the LED display between three measurements (voltage, current and stored peak current) of the three power rails. The peak currents continually update in the background on all rails, making it ideal for quickly getting maximum current figures.

Apart from measuring the current draw of a single module, Test 3 also supports testing power supplies and cables, measuring an entire system (up to 1 A of current on each rail), troubleshooting DIY modules, powering a skiff from a larger system...

Note: Test 3 is available as a (very easy) do-it-yourself project, requiring some soldering and basic tools. It can be built either as a standalone circuit board with the DIY Kit, or as a Eurorack module with both the DIY Kit and Front Panel Kit. This is a great beginner project if you're just getting into synth DIY!

This looks really neat. Does it offer protection for the main PSU in the event that the attached module somehow fails?

That is, would this be appropriate for testing unknown-state newly-built DIY modules or used-purchases or whatnot?

There's no real overcurrent protection, because something like a polyfuse would cause too much voltage drop, especially at 1 A. A more advanced way would be to switch off the rails electronically, but that method has a bunch of issues as well (more components on an already crowded layout, and voltage drop again to a lesser extent).

At any rate, your PSU should have reliable overcurrent protection. T3 does handle pretty large overloads, and has reverse-polarity protection on all rails + noise filtering. So it's protected to an extent. Hope that answers your question!

I'll be getting one of these for sure.

Hi all,

Test 3 was going to be available this month, but I hit some delays. The design is ready to go, I just have to wait for some suppliers.

I hate delays as much as the next person, but that's Eurorack I guess. Dead Banana

They should pop up at dealers in September! MSRP will be €70 / £65 / $80 without front panel, €95 / £85 / $110 with.

The wait is over! EU folks can get Test 3 directly from the webstore now, and they're coming to dealers worldwide soon (to be announced).

It's peanut butter jelly time!

Watch Quincas Moreira aka the Synth DIY Guy build Test 3! Includes a very nice step-by-step overview of the build and measurement demo.

Now also available at Perfect Circuit Audio (US).
