New Module:Instruo - scion (Biometric feedback to CV module)

Post by evs » Mon Sep 11, 2017 4:29 pm

This looks impressive!

"Biometric feedback to CV module.
Use your garden, houseplant, finger, pet, fruit bowl.. to generate your control voltage"

Holy moly.
Why is no one talking about it? And how does it work? What will you use to bring the contact to the plants... or your cat?
Is there something similar allready out?

ah, didn´t know the midi sprout..
interestingly, the midi sprout seems to cost 300$ now (during kickstarter it was just 95$), and thats without a midi to cv module.. so the scion might be a "cheap" way to get a midi sprout.. :-)

Wow, I was lurking to a Midi Spout but 300$ for a cardboard box with no CV control was really too expansive ! this module looks fantastic and a better option !!!! can't wait to learn more about it and its possibilities

I got to use this at the Leeds modular meet, its a very interesting module, when it was paired with the sequencer Instruo are making which does some really neat stuff arp and key wise it was really cool i was just using my finger to create melodies and riffs i was actually laughing manically it was just so ingenius. I'm not sure if its something for me personally but some will defo get some fun out of it. You can use any organic thing to create the CV its crazy!

Here's another video of it in action by Look Mum No Computer.

If I had the scion I would also have to have the ERD earth return distortion module.

Cheers! :sb:

hey peeps,

does "density" in this case mean that the speed of the randomness is increased as you slide upwards, thereby creating a greater density of notes? or does it mean that it allows for an increased number of harmonics in the given scale, but the speed of the randomness stays the same? Does the speed of the randomness always stay the same no matter the settings?

Thanks! :guinness:

has anyone tried using this with non-organic items? Does it do anything? could you fore example pick up a crystals vibrating freq? Anyone know of a nice crystal->cv converter?

For anyone familiar with classic Cyberpunk literature, I'm thinking wiredancer would be an interesting use of the module.

I'm buying at least one of these -- our bioengineering department is interested in maybe one more. Must say, Jason Lim is amazing -- answered my question right away. This is a weird, unusual module but honestly I have to say that sometimes the greatest things come from the strangest places! I especially like the harmonic series mode that Scion offers.

This isn’t very musical, but I haven’t seen anything quite like it — a simple demo of the module and some very surprising interactions with a plant I bought a few hours earlier at the local garden store.

I also show the difference between the two different electrodes supplied with Scion.
