Karplus Eel Funk

Post by dougcl » Sun Oct 12, 2008 12:44 am

Plucky sounds from Doepfer A-188-1 and A-121. Sequencing is via A-152 & A-160/161. Percussion is A-117/A-143-3 and A-111 (all Doepfer!) No eels were harmed.

Is the 188-1 before the filter? I like how it seems to be fattening up the waveform going into the filter. I've been mostly using it last before the mixer in the chain, I'll have to try moving it earlier. Nice demo.

I've got it before the filter. The sound is being generated like this (except I forgot to put a filter in the feedback path!):

The BBD module has the feedback path built in, so you just have to send it bursts of noise and modulate the delay time to get pitch. Works fine without the filter in the feedback path because the A-188-1 allows you to attenuate the feedback amount.

This whole thing plays the role of a VCO. I then have it in a standard subtractive synthesis patch using the A-121. This is the BBD-188-1 512, by the way. And as you might guess, getting the exact pitch is a little tricky. That's where the eel power comes in :)

Thanks for the demo, I do need to look more in to the whole
Karpls-Strong thing. I"m so glad to see all the eelastic, eeloquent
and eelectric discussions going on around here!

I'd do some KS demos too, but I haven't got a single vca, lol! *facepalm* - I may still work something out, but it'd be a right messy hack

Could you use a DC coupled Ring Modulator?
