Looking at getting one of these as a gift for my friend. Budget is about £60.

So far the best I've found is the Behringer Echo Machine

Anyone got any good suggestions?

Yep

Other (second-hand) cheapies I've liked: DOD DFX9 and Line6 Echo Park.

the echo machine isn't bad at all. if you want analog i recommend the vd400 vintage delay. 25$ is just ridiculous so buy 2 for stereo action thumbs up

I like the Yellow Fall by Donner as a cheap cheap cheap decent sounding delay.

I also think the Friday Club ED450b is my favorite basic ass cheap delay.

you can get the IBANEZ DE7 for 50 euros, still. The DOD DFX9 is very expensive in europe, unfortunately. I think the VD400 would be a nice gift, as its easy to get, cheap and fun

+1 for ibanez goofy ass looking DE7. can do nice digital delay and wannabe analog where the pitch goes crazy when you tweak the time. got mine for peanuts locally.
MindMachine
HOTONE Tape EKO.

Love all three settings. Fits in my pocket. Worth a shot.

I also have 2 ea. VD400 (Behringer) but the Tape EKO is much more versatile and cleaner (due to the digi nature).

How convincing is the Ibanez DE7 (or the Hotone Eko) at doing analog/tape/bbd emulation ?
Are the self-oscillation, the delay trail, the wow & flutter any good ?
Are they only digital delays with dampling slapped on, or rather accurate emulations ?

I need to do a few gigs, and i can't take my old BBD and tape machines, so i would need a cheap & compact pedal to make the characterful sound of an analog echo, so i am considering one of these.
I already have a Line6 M5 which is good for delays, but... i will need to use it for reverb duties Dead Banana

went for the echo machine... i'll ask him his thoughts on saturday and post them up here!

Mooer do a couple of usable delays, nice compact units (but does mean they need psu not battery) and both sound OK

Donner Yellow Fall for cheap ass decent sounding delay IMO is one of the most rock solid deals around.

although i have better and more expensive delays, i'll keep the echo machine not only because it isn't worth selling hihi
100% wet + tape modulation = instant lofi fun!

EHX Memory Toy is a good one, not sure of UK price, but I got mine for $65.

It sounds as gooey and warm as any delay I've heard.
