We're working on a new product. It's going to be a very crowded panel, so need to squeeze Alpha vertical-mount pots as closely as possible.

We already bought a large quantity of Alpha pots with D shafts. I've been looking around for narrow knobs for D shafts and finding nothing smaller than the 14mm knobs we were already using. Set-screw knobs will be difficult to fit thanks to the crowded layout.

The "Davies 1900H clone" knobs come in D versions although it would be great if they were a little smaller---they just barely fit. If we can't find something else I will use these.

These would be great---IF they came in D shaft versions. Haven't found that.

Ideas are welcome. I suspect DIYers and other mfrs have already been thru this.

(Please don't point to Ali Express. We have had order problems with them.)

Pointer on shaft pots? Can't get smaller than those. See what Chia-shin has

I.e. http://www.chiashinknobs.com.tw/products/cp/cp-specifications-photos/C R-R1A-7C6.htm

They will custom run stuff no problem if they don't have the knob listed in D, they waived the nre when I ordered 1000 pcs too..

The tiny rogans are pretty small diameter wise and are d shaft

Sifam make several styles of push on knobs that fit 6mm D shafts in 11mm and 13mm sizes. Are all your pots orientated the same way? Because the moq is 1000 and you have to decide where the pointer goes. Talk to them directly, not via a distributor, they do custom too. Sifam Controls

If you want a smaller knob you need a smaller shaft, like 1/8" or 4mm, so you've, er, shafted yourself there. Elma make a 9mm collet knob.

Nice, those are pretty wild and I've never seen them before. 1000 pcs MOQ sounds like a lot but considering that they will be probably ~ 0.22 each, it's probably $300 when it's all said and done.

the Sifam ones people are talking about are the DR110

They are cool (I use them all the time) but they have one draw back, because of the caps and size, the insert length is pretty short, 9mm so if you have panel mounted pots with longish shafts, they will sit super high. In fact, if you have anything OTHER than PCB mounted pots where less than 9mm of D is sticking out past the panel, they will sit high. The stop is all the way at the bottom too so there is no counter bore.

The Rogan 1P would be the other small one I like, it doesnt have that metal clip like the other ones. The D is recessed so there IS a counter sink to go over the round part of the shaft and they sit nice and low on pots that have the stop on the D up the shaft a bit (the TT 9mm D pots are like this)

Noise Engineering uses some really small metal D-shaft knobs. I can send you a few if you'd like to try them, but I don't know where to buy them in quantity.

They're the two smallest ones in these pics:

The tallest knob in the pic is also Noise Engineering, but that one is set-screw instead of D-shaft.

Thank you all, I've ordered a couple of the Chia Shin knobs. For "new product" wink
