Additive synthesis track - Partials 1

Post by wetterberg » Tue Oct 14, 2008 7:13 pm

In light of all this discussion of musique concrete and oldskool electronic music, and some Gear Acquisition Syndrome regarding additive synths earlier on, I believe? I felt inspired to try something new with my rig.

Think of this as a sine wave autoharp: Left hand selects the frequencies, right hand sets the amplitude. 64 partials and full control.

Performed live, directly into Ableton Live with some reverb. No editing apart from truncating the beginning.

It's amazing to think that big mainframe computers would spend weeks rendering out just a few minutes like this back in the day (although their signals probably didn't clip

I'd love to see a video of you controlling this piece! A really visual tune, for me.

@spbaker, surprisingly it doesn't handle effects-loads as well as I had hoped - it's a combination of dense clusters messing with effects (can be a good thing) and that they're all fundamentals - there's no overtones to filter, really. BUT you can do these really cool bandpass-sweeps with your hands.

@surachai In all honesty, I've been reluctant to video my rig recently, due to the ... extravagance of running two Lemurs. But you're right, it *is* very much a hands-on experience( ouch, bad pun, sorry)
