Author New Buchla 208 PCBs - a few sets available NOW
papz
Hi

Please read the FAQ, your question may have been answered already w00t
http://www.portabellabz.be/208pcbfaq.html

Build thread : https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2729430

I'm happy to offer a few sets at discount price. nanners
PCBs are error free and fully working, the exact same ones as the ones used for the 208 shown below.
They just don't have 2 very small improvements mentioned for the coming ones : dedicated reverb shielded cable pads on board 12 and trimpots wiper extra hole, but that's really a small detail and won't upset the build in any way.

ALL the existing 208 panels for 208r rev1, rev2, rev2.1 have the exact same holes layout and are 100% compatible with the PCBs I offer.

250€ (bank transfer) or 260€ (Paypal) for a PCB set (if desired, panel and reverb frame will be available separately soon to people who bought this PCB set.)
PCB set + HQ panel + reverb frame - SOLD OUT
Shipping included

Hurry up, it's a limited offer !

Hi

In early 2018 I'll offer 208 PCBs.
They will be blue, include all corrections and the headphones noise reduction mod.
The BOM will be the same. They will be 100% compatible with the existing PCBs, panels and reverb frames, but reverb frames and maybe panels should be available from me too.

Price of the PCB set should be in the 300€ range, including 2 pA726 chiclets.

is this another indication that roman is discontinuing his buchla clone biz?
papz
This is not related.

We have been working on these PCBs for a while with a friend.
Several 208s were already built with previous runs we did, but a few fixes were needed (missing or broken traces).
I'm currently building a 208 with the latest - hopefully the final w00t - revision, to make sure all is perfect before offering these PCBs to the DIY community.

Isnt someone else handling it now? Last PCBs I saw came from California.

Hey PapZ

Sounds fun

Just to check, you mentioned this is different to the Roman F project.

But is this also different to the jhulk (JMLS) project mentioned on this board?

If so, we have 3 easel clones to choose from.

Cheers.
papz
The PCBs I'll offer are an original 70s 208 design, like Roman's rev2 and 2.1, but without traces errors.
The same parts, build instructions and calibration procedure can be used.

I didn't follow the JMLS project in details, but as far as I understand, please correct me if I'm wrong, these PCBs will be different from the original design in some points and use some modern equivalent parts and redesigned circuits.

It's a good thing to have different solutions to choose from.

Also, no subscription or prepayment or reservation is needed.
When ready, the PCBs will be directly available on my website via paypal or bank transfer.
Bundles including the ToolBox or BOB Expander PCBs will be available at reduced price as well.
They will ship from Belgium 1 or 2 days after payment reception, without overdone delay. Being a DIYer myself, I really care about this.

Cool! applause applause applause
Have an Easel, but I'm waiting for other Buchla-PCB's Guinness ftw!

Great papz, looking forward to this!

whatever happens consider me please...I'll definitely want to build a couple of them :-)
Cheers Papz, thanks for your hard work

Cheers !

Put me down for one!

Awesome! Any chance you'll do any other buchla pcbs?
papz
I don't plan to do other Buchla PCBs but wouldn't be surprised if others do.
APETECHNOLOGY
great news, looking forward to this!

The PCBs will also have other features to ease the build :
- enlarged holes for switches to allow the use of both PCB mount (with thin lugs) and panel mount (with larger lugs) switches
- rectified pots holes emplacement to avoid bending their legs and causing stress on the resistive trace
- dedicated pads on board 12 to solder the reverb's shielded cable (the trace causing MO bleed is removed)
- extra hole for the trimpots wiper on daughterboards to allow the use of various types
- gold plated transfer card (between the panel and PCB edge connectors) matching 15mm standoffs, to make the switch nuts easier to screw than with 17mm ones

Very nice!

Do you know what slider pots your motherboard will take?

Definitely interested in this.
papz
Silder emplacements are like on Roman's and match old and new ones.
I recommend Farnell's Alps ones however, the plastic old ones are really crappy.

There will also be a +5V connection to the card slot, to work with a iProgram card.

Here are pics of an almost finished 208 with these PCBs (just a few parts missing).

Extra board on card 3 is Tarandfeather's envelope mod.
Extra boards on cards 6 and 7 are the pA726.
Extra board on motherboard is a switchable envelope looper.
heapish
What's the envelope mod?

I am definitely in for a PCB set when they come about.

oh, and a panel too (if you end up doing those)
ninGiaBoom
Well If i may, i would also pick a bundle (pcb+Panel+Toolbox+Bob), I'm already excited about that, seems much like a real Buchla Christmas to me
papz
thumbs up

Panels would be manufactured by https://www.schaeffer-ag.de (UV printing) and much better quality than the currently available ones, thicker, nicer looking, finer brushing and softer touch.

But also more expensive... Top quality has its price.

Here are some large pics : http://www.portabellabz.be/images/panel_208.zip

When this project becomes available-- will it be around and offered for a while? Or is it going to be a scramble to get a place in the order queue? : )

It sounds like a pretty good deal so far, I'd like to get in on it.
