Finally fixed my phone!
Which means....
Erica Synths DIY Delay build pics!
:yay:

This was by far the biggest most complex thing I’d built and still is by some margin! Very nervous as it was a quite expensive kit for a rookie!

27th Oct. 2018!

It is safe to say vertical resistors are somewhat more time consuming!
Phew glad that’s done!

Had problems with the next stage in that the buttons were too tight for the holes. (Panel manufacturing) deburr stage/Powdercoated swarf?

Image

Fixed with micro mesh, can’t remember exactly but I think 4000 grit.
(Not a typo thousand.)

What needed removing;
Image

NOT A MOAN! Just how I got around it.
(When pressed some buttons didn’t release properly)

Test fit.
Image

All working ok!

To finish......

Absolutely insane build! For me anyway!

Learned a lot about the build process, main point, it is not always best to work through each component in order! Sometimes you might want to work from the centre out! (The leds I recall were quite tricky for me as per the instruction call out)

But that could just be inexperience or lack of skill, or cheap equipment!
I think it would be better to fit them earlier but a more slender iron might not have any trouble? Those who are competent in all things diy will see where the pads are for the leds, very tight and in among a bunch of carefully placed vertical resistors.

Anyway, up to date I think! This unit is excellent!

Any insight into best practice here would be appreciated.
Currently I think fit them before the components on the flip side crowd the area, or get another iron!

Right now my synth looks like this.

The top row is unplugged due to power constraints.
According to the grid it is 1002mA like this!

So it was a long way over.....had an issue shortly after shoehorning the performer in.

Must get a better power supply so that I can unleash the full potential of this beast!Image

When I get home today I’ll have a whole box of new modules!

I went absolutely bloody crazy and bought 7 items in one hit.
Biggest single purchase to date.....and I thought it would get easier?

My case is still pretty much as shown above except I’ve powered the top row using the frequency central power supply I built at Christmas.

It works as a quick fix but I need way more power and now I’m needing about double the rail space.

Once complete my synth will look like this!
Image

All that I own, some of it is still in the post, some still needs assembly.
The last order from pusherman is still just a bunch of panels/pcbs and most of the components scattered liberally about the place.

One day, before Christmas I hope! This thing will rock.....

Waiting for lubadh.......

Top tip!
When your synth is full, buy enough modules so that you may perch a piece atop the pile of boxes and test.

All ok save the PLL. DOA.
Really happy with the complex envelope. Just getting to grips with that thing.

84hp of doepfer stuff.
A-196 PLL ? Dead
A-172 max min does what it says it does
A-171.2 slew 2 umm not yet fully tested
A-143.1 complex EG. yay!
A-138c +/- mixer. Pretty cool
A-128 filter bank. Simply filters, EQ. Full cut per band.
A-124 SE wasp. Dirty, nice. Weird?

The a143.1 & a138c are a team for sure.

Gutted my synth to fit all but the PLL and slew.

Really need a case that is at least double the size.

After some jiggery pokery I am left with this.
Had to take out some of my favourite things, and some really useful things.

However all is not bad. Power constraints removed and I’m well under budget which means the whole box is back to a single power source.

Better, safer and more sensible.

The slew is quite a lot of fun as a noise source :hmm: :despair:

Experimenting.........with a synth that now looks like this!

This should be enough :hmm:

I am aiming for double and a bit this time!
One row extension, well that filled up way too fast.

Once assembled I’ll have six rails with bus boards, 3 of which are diy (to be made).
Then 2 spare rails for the future, just in case.
:despair:

Case to follow........

POWER!

These arrived today!

Mean well lumps wired up for a dual rail supply.
6A per rail.
Should be enough power!
Currently all I own is equal to approx 2A.

Couple rails spare......but, things are on order!
Things are being released.....
I really hope 8x84 is enough because this is getting silly.Image

Lubadh on order! Due 11th December.
:yay:

Er...accidental grab of his harmonaig module too.

WMD Metron in the post....along with some rack ears.

Now I really must get this case sorted.

No more synths
No more synths
No more synths
No more synths

:hmm:

What is wrong with me?
:despair:

Love this mult! And it will be discontinued, so.......
I got another just in case.

And while I was at it.
Something new! Stasis leak!
Syncable delay, chorus and reverb. All at the flick of a switch.
No sound demo, bought on blind faith.
Image

Don’t know what’s up with the picture being upside down.
But life is like that sometimes.....
So, oh well.

Although it shipped with a loose piece.
My sequencer arrived! I hope the part turns out to be nothing but “swarf”

Either way, I am excited by this.
It’s bloody sexy!

Metron to be returned.
:sadbanana:

The “swarf” is the boot switch.

On the plus side, I was really excited when I opened the box.

I get to do that again!

More complex, complex envelope.
2hp breakout. Moves pre/post polariser jumper to front panel.
Essentially free?
Made up out of the parts bin, hooray for price break ordering strategy.

Probably should’ve use some heat shrink on the terminals.
Apart from a burnt thumb, which stinks.......Yeah, it’s ok.

If I hadn’t just burnt my thumb.....
This probably wouldn’t have meant a thing.

However I did and it does.
Though I thought the smell more akin to pork than poultry.

Well done thonk.

Metron take two...
:yay:
Elevator sound....
Worth a mention! Handled this issue like pros.
Cheers.

Loads of rack ears!
One more delivery then I can get to building my case.....
Hopefully it’ll be the last case I need.

Applause indeed!
This thing is pretty cool, and I’ve barely scratched the surface.
It has certainly simplified drum patterns!

(Possible with the performer but.....)
The performer is clearly designed as a cv sequencer.
Which it does very well.

With these two units, I cannot blame the tools!
A duff mix will be all my fault!

Back to the Metron;
The fx fill thing, while it is not new, it is new to me.
That element is so much fun!

Once my lubadh arrives I will be in synth heaven.
Lubadh lubadh lubadh!

So I’ve spent about a week with the Metron.
It’s pretty cool!
Some drum and bass dance type noodling.

So I did the case!
This is the end result of a few afternoons this last few days. Almost finished! Almost all my stuff mounted.
First time in months it’s all modules available to me!

Almost.......

I’m glad I stopped at 6 and not 8 rails. This is about the edge of easy transportability!
8 rails would be awkward to say the least.
Which means I have an emergency two rails for that other synth......which is still nesting at the back of a warehouse or triggering synapses within the designers brain.

Yay.

So the excitement has worn off. :omg:
This thing is better! Had a major jam lasting the entire break. It certainly kept my mind busy.

Today;
Finishing off a few items that remain to complete this case.
First thing missing.....3 bus boards.
Which means more wiring and some module jumbling.

Actually far more satisfying a task than I had envisioned.
The one of monotony.
That belt being firmly worn by filling rails with square nuts. The only thing worse than that was exchanging hex nuts for square nuts!

Building the pusherman boards.....FINALLY!
1C5AD25E-9C37-4810-AA19-7C0BAEB4B37F.jpeg
Just need a hole for the proper plug socket and the case is done!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New synth look!
It’s changed already since the vid.....
Got those bus boards in!
(Almost!) out of cable....bottom board not yet connected.
But she runs :yay:

A good place to start the year.
