Just discovered him (40 years to late)

He MUST have inspired the early electronics "pioneers". I was shocked when i heard his music. Listen to the track Aquarius from 69. Kraftwerk totaly ripped that one off! I feel love (Donna Summer) must be very inspired by "Leave the driving to us". Not to mention early Human League beeing inspired by just about anything he did.

Respect to Mort Garson!
Disrespect to me not discovering him sooner.

GARSON IS GOD

Totally light years beyond what anyone was doing at the time, Carlos included. Just completely overlooked. who else was doing original work on the Moog that was not pure cheese? Black Mass and Ataraxia are probably my favorite records of all time, totally peerless.

Pretty much all of it is out there on the blogs, but you cant beat watching the vinyl go round and round.

Respect to him, though I don't like the talk all over the individual twelve Zodiac albums.

Those couple instrumental albums were special but he wasn't immune to doing cheese. Amusing cheese mind you, but complete cheese.

The first Signs of the Zodiac album (with the songs) is credited as the first album featuring the Moog. I wouldn't say he was totally alone doing music like that, more that much of the music went out of print and fell through cracks

He is a true genius.
He just can`t come up with stuff like he does so early...

His Plantasia album is one of my all-time fav records. There's a good interview with him somewhere on youtube.

I think he inspired HIMSELF quite a bit also. He reuses a lot of his material on a few different records. I'm not 100% but I think all of the music on the zodiac record series is from other records. I have a lot of his stuff (mostly on LP). Although I'm happy to have the 'wordy' records he put out they rarely get more than a play or two around here. His instrumental LPs, on the other hand, are smokin'!
Can't go wrong with these:
Plantasia
Blackmass;Lucifer
Ataraxia
Head (three tracks: Cannabis Sativa, LSD, Nitrous Oxide)
and to a lesser extent:
Z - music for sensuous lovers (there are some 'vocals' on this one) hihi

Drugs, the occult, and a modular synth. Can't go wrong with that combo.

Sensuous lovers? That`s the -women having a good time- songs?
Kinda strange... What was it? Music for a porn movie?

Love me some Mort Garson.
If you're diggin him, but haven't checked out Raymond Scott, then you should do so.
He treads some of the same ground but years earlier.

I liked Lucifer: Black Mass so much I had to go and buy the LP off eBay. Never regretted it. I would also like to get the Ataraxia LP, but it's too expensive right now. Lucifer: Black Mass is one of my all time favorite albums these days. The sounds are so lush and the compositions have spirit in them.

I do like the original single album Zodiac, I think it has great songs and the chap doing the talking is great. I have been thinking of hunting down some of the 12 Zodiac albums since I haven't been able to find those as mp3s.

Plantasia is really cool.

I stayed up til 4am to snipe a copy of ataraxia in Australia for $33.

One day desperately trying to stay awake at work was worth it each time I drop the needle.

I just found that Mort's Ataraxia "The Unexplained" album was recently reissued on CD. I don't mean that bootleg 2015 CD, this one is licensed from Sony and mastered from actual tapes. I just got a copy and let me tell you, listening to this album without all the clicks and pops is like a new experience. I found it on Discogs but I've seen it on eBay and a few other places as well. I exchanged a couple messages with the guy who released this and he said he also licensed Mort's Lucifer album from 1971, and is going to be releasing that soon. Yay!
