Sputnik 244 - manual? help?

Post by reverberation » Thu Feb 08, 2018 3:58 am

Hello there,

So I have this excellent Sputnik 244 and use it a lot. I mainly bought it for the clock divider and ASH.

Is there a manual available somewhere? Not sure how to use the VCA's.
I'm used to putting an audio signal to in and then audio on the output too. In this case there's banana jacks, so I'm not sure how to operate this.

Aren't they just VCAs for CV? Put a CV signal in the black jack, and scale it via CV applied to the grey jack, taking the output from the blue jack.

Hello, it's me again.
Does anyone else here has this amazing module? Is your ASR working properly? Mine is totally out of tune. Do you know if there's a trimmer or something inside?

I believe it's a known issue the ASR design is bad.

yep, the ASR is notoriously janky. this is one possible workaround, i have it and works great. the manual triggers, not so much.

as is mentioned above, the VCA are just for scaling CV instead of audio. think automation of a manual CV attenuator - e.g. you've got the CV outputs of a 245/245 controlling the pitch on a 258. you could manually adjust the effect of the 245/246 CV in and out by turning the attenuator. but if you run the 245/246 CV through the VCA first, an envelop from a 281 could fade the effect in and out for you. it's actually very handy.

Great examples. The most common way to relate to the CV VCAs function is for vibrato. LFO/looping envelope to the CV in, mod wheel or keyboard pressure CV to the VCA CV in, output to the oscillator(s). Of course lead melodies with variable vibrato are possibly the least common application in Buchla land...all CV sources are available for processing.
I just can't help imagining that this would be better with vactrols
