How does the ES-5 work?

Hey everyone. Can anyone help explain to me how the ES-5 works and how to use it? I find the documentation for it really cryptic and the interface for the ES-5 Controller plugin is also a bit esoteric to say the least. What goes into the plugin, and what comes out of it? And how does it work more specifically, if I want to circumvent the plugins/daw (and Max/MSP).

The manual just mentions midi channels going in and out of the plugin (but then actually not in Ableton ?) and not exactly why or how hmmm..... hmmm..... hmmm.....

Any help appreciated. Thanks

I should mention that I have it seemingly correctly wired up my es-3 as per the user manual: http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/es5usermanual.html

And also the es-3 + voice controller works great so far

What do you want to use it for? Gates? Clocks? Triggers? MIDI output?

Preferably Gates + Triggers

Then you want the ES-5 Controller. Enable the 'Gates' feature (by turning the MIDI channel from 'off' to '1').

Okay I think I've got it working now. It took me a while though.

I still don't understand how it basically functions. The documentation lacks a basic description of how this all works. In the manual, the introduction just describes how the plugin won't timeout. Sorry for being annoying but I think a lot of people could get even more out of your modules if there was a bit more clarity in the docs.

The ES-3 "just" converts audio to CV which is easy to grasp I think, and
getting started with the ES-3 in SuperCollider was really easy. What do I send to the es-5 linked channels to activate each channel on it's own. When I send the es-5 channels on my es-3 a bipolar lfo in SC it cycles through all the outputs nicely. I expect it's a binary number of sorts but I can't figure out the logic rn. Thanks
