Advice on clocking a Verbos Electronics System

So the title says it all, what can i do to properly clock a Verbos Electronics System? Maybe even more-so, what haven't I figured out yet?

Starting off, my system looks like this:

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/318320

I use an Elektron RTYM mk 1 to either midi in to the Synthrotek Midi, and then Clock Out to the advance of a Multistage. For the most part the results are fairly solid, except for tonite when I was attempting to play live in front of people and everything went to hell in a hand basket. Nothing was synced, and I couldn't pull it together. I've also tried using the pulse / CV feature on the RTYM to plug straight into the advance. This is interesting because I can set triggers and come up with interesting swing gates.

Here is what i'm running into: Either I am incredibly tight on my sequences, or I'm all over the place like new teed off golf-ball, I can't seem to find a happy, middle ground in getting everything to play nicely together consistently. I'm hoping someone might be able to share some insight into how I might be able to patch this altogether so that way I have flexibility in using the Multistage as sequencer.

I've been considering getting another Tempi as that seems to keep everything nice and together, while allowing me wiggle room for speeding up and slowing down tempos.

I've also tried watching Mark perform, and I can't quite figure out how he keeps everything together. If anyone has any insight, or suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

(and if what I said makes no sense, i'll try to clarify)

Thanks!

Well... Seeing as how no one has any insight, I'll share what I did:

I figured that i could change one of the pads on my RTYM to Pulse, which basically sends out a Gate / Trigger signal to whatever. I patched that into the advance of the Verbos Multistage, and I also set the BPM to 2x on the RYTM. I use that to advance the stages and now it's nice and snappy and I can add or remove triggers on the rytm as well as turn off stages on the Multistage. Seems to work pretty well.

In my research I stumbled upon this guy:

https://www.perfectcircuitaudio.com/erica-synths-midi-to-clock-v2.html

Which I will be getting as it has both a midi clock divider and multiplier.

Some examples for now:

Mark uses (or has used) the trigger out of his 909 to advance the Voltage Multistage. This video starts at the point where he explains. I do the same thing with the trigger out of my TR-09. But sometimes I use the trigger out to my clock divider, then use my clock divider out to the VMS and other modules.

Thanks for the link!! Good to know Im in the same ballpark!

That’s the way I use the RYTM in my non verbos system... one of the pads as a pulse out. Works great and rock solid

A shame to externally clock the VMS as it seems to disable a lot of the functionality, is it feasible to run your drums from the VMS tempo?

I don't fully agree on that as when you clock the VMS you can have CV control over the Gate length by modulating the Time CV input and it can be very usefull in some situations.

I thought the time CV attenuator was disabled when externally clocking?

It modulates the gate length when clocked externally - not the step length anymore, what time modulation eventually is.

Oh cool, thanks for the info, didn't know that!
You guys using this function for opening lpgs and VCAs (other uses?)?

Hesitant to reply because we've gotta keep the megathread going, but it's handy to have as a pitch envelope.

When clocking VMS externally, patching ref back into time cv will give you more interesting shapes
