MIDI to CV via automation?

Author MIDI to CV via automation?

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out a way to send cv using the MIDI automation signal from a music production software. Ideally the range of the CV signal could be configurable.

Example use case: Open and close a filter automatically (in a repeatable way) using the automation feature in Logic/Ableton.

Is this something that an advanced MIDI module such as the Mutable Instruments Yarns could do?

Building something like this using a micro controller should not be too complex but I rather just buy something available now.

Many off-the-shelf MIDI to CV converters will allow you to do this, namely translate MIDI CC to a continuous voltage, e.g. the Kenton Pro Solo, which will allow you to scale the output.

Check to see how many CCs you want to send at the same time to determine which unit is right for you. The resolution of the D/A conversion will determine how smooth your automation is, although a simple slew limiter can help.

CV.OCD has four CV outputs with 12-bit resolution, plus 12 gate outputs. Highly configurable.

Most MIDI-CV interfaces these days can convert pitch wheel, aftertouch, and a few CCs to a control voltage.

I do have one of those that I bought to program my FM syntesizers. I completely forgot about it!
