Raspberry Pi media player?

Hi people,

I'm kindly ask for your expertise as I'm looking for a solution to play some video files through a Rapsberry Pi (1) via composite video out.

I'd like to be able to scroll somehow through different clips to feed a EDIROL V4 for further processing. This clips can be long video files or shorter stuff if the software is able to auto-loop.

Clip selection through keyboard would be cool, auto play of first clip when powering on would be cool as well.

Can you point me on something with this capabilities if it exists?

Thanks in advance for your time NTSC/PAL pals

You wedded to a raspberry pi?

I’ve used this. Then again, if you really want to use the Pi don’t mess around with it’s awful composite out, buy a retrotink for much higher quality.

Yeah, LZX inputs won't even sync to the Pi's composite output. So I only the HDMI output on the Pi. You can set the Pi to output SD video, but then you need to convert to composite. I've used a cheap converter I found on ebay. It's not great but it beats the Pi's direct composite out. Processing the Pi's composite with a video mixer also works, but that's overkill unless you're also using the mixer's effects.

There are definitely uses for a Pi in video - you just have to decide if/how they work for you. From what you say you want, it sounds like some custom programming would be needed. That may be the hardest part.

BTW, a Roland/Edirol P10 sampler may be be able to do what you want, if you can find one on ebay.

It's never easy, right?

Thanks tau_seti for the suggestion, that media played looks good, could be an option.

I have a Raspberry on the shelf since ages, it's a present I sadly never found a use for, now it looked like the cheapest and most accessible solution so I started thinking about it, since I saw it here and there in video installations.
I thought it was easier.

nerdware, EDIROL P10 would be a must, I was never able to find one, it would be an insta buy.

LZX Andor 1 is still something I'm considering, need to study the user manual.

Thanks a lot thumbs up

Have you tried Super Pikix Pi? A software to mix videos on the Raspberri Pi, might not be exactly what you are looking for but that community might guide you in the right direction...

I use the Keedox and it syncs fine for BW input

Thanks, looks interesting, do you mean it syncs for black and white LXZ core modules? I guess it will work fine for color Edirol V4 composite as well right? Way cheaper than the Andor1, even if the Andor still looks pretty solid for the job..

Yes i have mine in Sync via composite with a Visual Cortex giving black and white luma image.

They work in full color when used with V4

Forgot to mention, you can always buy a Retrotink. That gives the Pi much better video output.
