here are your clues:

1) Basic building block is known to be "adjustable to be more buzzy"

I'll go so far as to say there's definitely a A-137.

Beyond that, I'd say some sort of BBD or delay is involved...maybe that's the vintage kit?
dress yourself for the public. you now must exit your home and acquire a dental mirror and lubrication!

Drew, the detuning you heard was probably wow and flutter - my machine has a really bad case of wow these days, since it's mounted sideways ;)

I still need a second osc., I will not deny that!
