USAMO and Linux?

Author USAMO and Linux?

Hi,

I use Bitwig on Linux and I was wondering if it was possible to use the USAMO plugin (preferably natively)

Thanks.

The USAMO software doesn't have a Linux version -- see http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/downloads.html
There may be third party efforts to get ES software to work as a Linux plugin using Carla and/or Wine but I don't know how successful they have been.

Yeah that's unfortunate, I thought perhaps ES had plans for it. Is the protocol spec otherwise documented somewhere? If so, then I could try to hack a plugin together that sends out the necessary audio stream to the USAMO.

From what I've read ES has no plans to make Linux versions. It's encouraging to see Bitwig and Tracktion becoming more Linux-friendly, and some ES hardware is usable for those DAWs.

Thanks for linking me that! However, the github link in that thread doesn't contain externals for ESX-8MD, only for ESX-8CV. Which is certainly strange, since the ESX-8MD page mentions a Max/MSP external, but the downloads page does not mention the ESX-8MD (under Max/MSP externals).

Otherwise I could purchase the ES-40 and the ESX-8MD, which is much better in my case than getting multiple USAMOs.

Perhaps os can shed some light on this situation?

The page says

The ESX-8MD requires software in order to operate, as noted above. Currently, the only such software is Expert Sleepers Silent Way, and our Max/MSP external. Note that MIDI functionality is only available via Silent Way.

The external lets you drive the outputs of the ESX-8MD, from which you could construct e.g. a DINsync clock. It doesn't do the MIDI stuff though.
