As ,i want to go to the buchla 100 clones route
and as i have 5 years experience in building cases
i plan to build /offer for my self and for interested wigglers as a diy kit or built
a buchla 100 case
Can we discuss about this here ?
the goal : a 500/700 eu budget ,15 u cabinet ,with the community wishes/choices

-Psu ,
a repliqua of the original ? can be cheap

a modern as i already use in the 200 clone case with only the 100 series voltages 15v 24v ? cheaper
or with all the voltages +24v ,to have the option of use 200e/200 serie and exotic with the 100 series in the same case?

boats
5u aluminium natural /painted ,which color?

cheeks
as the originals
foldable
solid polywood/or rare exotic massif wood as walnut (i dont like this option)
painted wood
aluminium new design natural or painted to match the boats

others :
bnc lamps?
case/bag for travel

Wait your ideas ...

+24V is very important especially for the 190 dual reverb which is a huge part of the 100 Series sound.

The two small audio transformers are usually mounted on the top inside of a wooden cabinet away from the module with a terminal strip for wiring. +24V is run to them at that point. The two reverb tanks are usually mounted to the inside left and right sides of the case.

If you're doing boats like this please prepare them to allow connection to the external transformers/power and reverb tank audio.

i would prefer a wood case without boats as close as possible to the original:

http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/buchla100.php

these are 25U - one can split into a vertical and horizontal case(as an extention)
it depends on how many modules will be available...

but zthee has done a good compromise with wood cheeks and boats also...

a modern psu with all the 100 series voltages - no need for 200e modules in the same case

Agree! Boops does beautiful work, but I think the CBS era 100 cabs are among the best looking ever.

That would be awesome if available!

thanks for your interests

first wishes

external psu (to avoid noise )
-with modern psu ,no noise with 200 serie,is the 100 design modules are noisy ?
no 200e but 200 ?need extra 5/-15/12v
-parts to fit the reverb tank x2

-original look ,why not
extension is great 10 +15

Dont forget the low budget goal
25 x 100 modules ?,is it possible ?
can you imagine a complete cabinet ala modular grid

original look with 15U ?
i m not sure its massive walnut ,but a thin rare wood layer on polywood or MFD
PLACAGE in french ,cheaper, and more solid
i ve done a 203 custom order, with this technique pics below

a friend build this acajou case with my boats
boats are great to install the modules easily, alumium refresh the dcdc converters too. its light and solid

we look for the internal pics of the original 25U cabinet !
oh its not my shoes on the pic below nanners

if you have a look at lasesentaysiete´s 100 project and the list of modules,
that are announced - 15U won´t be enough.

additionally 100´s projects can follow
possibly from Buchla themself ... eek!

wigglers who want to build a smaller system can maybe buy just the upper case or use the existing 200´s boats?!

I am interested in original look,if hardwood.

Cheap is for sure not possible, that is normal.

Gentle reminder fluxmonkey and I've been building to order some of the 100 Series modules for a few years already and have pages of home-etch build guides as well ( ebolatone.blogspot.com ) wink

PSU must have +/-15V and +24V. At minimum biipolar 15V then add a +24V wallwart. I believe the 180 uses +24V. Some of the 410 Module Cluster derivatives such as the envelope do as well.

And you can have 2 or 3 same module like the 158..

definitely thumbs up

This is my 100 clone system from a while back, its grown to 2 cases since then.

this is populated mostly with Mikes wonderful builds
separate 24v power
note the reverb tank mounting and transformers for the 190

The essential modules for the 100 'sound' is the 190/175 combination.

Prototype model for the 101 case i am planning to build after xmas

That looks great. Have you got any dimensions you could share?

Also, our project will be offering a 24V booster from the 200 series 214 power module - so you dont need a separate 24V - just a 15V supply.

definitely interested in clones of the CBS buchla cabinets. theyre really nice.

I would go for one (or two) as well. Or just the front/top/end pieces and use 5 x 5U boats cool

Seems like a dead thread, did this project ever come to fruition? Would love a Buchla 100 wooden case. we're not worthy
minime123
we recently met a local carpenter who seems excited to work with us. we may eventually have him build clones of the CBS buchla curved cabinets. one thing anyone attempting to clone these should consider is the fact that the originals are in 2 pieces, which is really important as a single cabinet in the same shape will be pretty heavy and difficult to move without help.
