midiphy SEQ v4+

Post by latigid on » Thu Dec 06, 2018 6:12 pm

After about two years of development, the SEQ v4+ is ready for purchase. You'll find the relevant PCB/essential parts kits here:

https://www.midiphy.com/en/shop-details ... ntial-kit-
https://www.midiphy.com/en/shop-details ... ntial-kit-

Within those pages you can find BOMs and a tool to export to Mouser. Please shout out if there is a backordered/obsolete part and I'll update the list (even better if you suggest a replacement :)) Of course, you'll have some of the parts already or there may be cheaper alternatives available.

Peter has compiled gigabytes of build footage, so he can be your personal guide as you complete the journey :):

The current batch of cases are somewhere between Estonia and Germany, so with luck they'll be in early next week.

Happy building!

We don't have a huge warehouse, so the cases will be sent in smaller batches. To speed things up, Adrian offered to basically hold one order for us at a time, thus the shipping should be fast when things get going.

Cases for all!

I’ve watched some of the second video. I think the sheer ambition of this - the shop, instructional videos, the case / interface quality, on years of midibox development - is just awesome.

I hope I can soon carve out the time to do this, and that that time converges with case and full BOM availability so that it doesn’t become yet another multi- month or multi-year project in my backlog.

I see that the ETA for the loopa v2 has moved back. Am keen on that too - hopefully it also gets a decent case.

Thanks for the support. I think the result is well worth the effort, especially for a codebase this powerful.

We'll get it out the door before working on the LoopA. I hope Adrian will be interested in doing a case for it too :).

Cases back in stock and going fast again!

I've also started working on the CV/gate expander modules (8 CV; multiples of 8 channels for up to 8 gates, 8 clocks (optional start sync signal), up to 64 triggers)

Could the CV and gate expander modules be made to work with other MIDIbox projects? I’ve been wanting to build out the expansion port on my MB-6582 for quite some time but get hung up on whether I need the line driver modules, suitable enclosures, etc. A ready-made euro module (I think that’s what I’m looking at?) seems like it would simiplify things greatly.

I suppose I could log back on to the MIDIbox forums...

Sure, the hardware is built to work with the existing code. Not sure if the MB-6582 uses shift registers for gates though? You'd also have to find space for differential line drivers inside (can't remember if you still use the PT-10?). It has been done to connect the digital data directly to the outside world but YMMV.

Cool! I am using the PT-10 case; there’s some space left in there but not a whole lot of good places to mount extra boards. I can probably get creative though. Can’t recall how the Mb-6582 does gates either but I’m sure I can figure it out. (I’ll stop clogging up this thread with non SEQv4+ stuff and come find you on the MIDIbox forums to pick your brain if I ever get around to opening the MB-6582 up again.)

So this module then... Is it basically just an AOUT in euro form? Or is there more/less going on than that?

Will kits be available toward the end of the year? I have a few synth purchases to make before I can pick this guy up?

Actually this one is the DOUT side with 3.5mm sockets and LED drivers. Quite simple in the end, but it needed to be done. Still at the prototyping phase hence no full release yet.

Sure! We'll keep ordering batches as long as there's demand.

Hi Jim,

As a principle we never take money for things that aren't ready to ship. An exception is when the shop is in "holiday mode," where the parts are there but won't be shipped until the allotted date.

Did you sign up for a back-in-stock update? Just create a simple login and you'll receive a notification the second it goes online.

Next batch should be there in a few weeks, or there's a couple of RH in stock!

Hello,

What's the time frame for the Eurorack receiver/gate/CV out module releases? I'd prefer to order the full kit + the eurorack together to avoid two transatlantic shipments.

Thanks!

You may get a quicker response in the MIDIbox forums. Last I heard was in late May, they were expecting to get sample panels in a couple weeks, then do a run of boards after that. So seems like they might be ready any time now.

Boards were shipped today, still waiting on panels but Adrian seems to work well in the background.

We have the PJ398SM jacks too, otherwise the remaining parts can be bought from Mouser using our copy-paste BOM tool.

I'm not sure if Peter will do a full tutorial before release, will check with him. Probably several weeks away.

The LoopA is gearing up for release as well, but that's for another thread :).

Hopefully y’all don’t wait to start selling things until the tutorial is ready :) I’m eager to build these modules up ASAP ;)

Have you considered one panel for all three modules combined? I imagine most people will be building all three, and not building more than that. I’m personally thinking about making mine a stand-alone box.
