Author Recent Aphex Twin pseudonyms maybe

https://midievil-records.bandcamp.com/album/now-thats-what-i-call-idm- 1-compilation

Im thinking either a bunch of artists all suddenly nailed Aphex Twins sound or Aphex Twin has released a whole bunch of tracks under various pseudonyms. Many of the “groups” on that comp have their own page with their own tracks. Check out fxbip for instance theres like 100 tracks in that discography alone.

Am I crazy? Maybe sounding like Aphex is super easy now and everybody is doing it.

that'z rdj.

found a better link to Cool and Frank https://coolandfrank.bandcamp.com/album/my-brooklyn-dad-winter-coat

This does sound a bit like rdj.

I’m not hearing rdj at all with this one. There’s vocals, even guitar on a track.

The fxbib stuff is really quite good but digging into him I'm pretty sure it's not Richard.

Here's him DJing:
https://www.facebook.com/fxbip/videos/917553301775577/

And his Facebook, seems he's also a pretty productive visual artist:
Personal Facebook
Art Stuff

That would be a LOT of work to put into a pseudonym.

Sure, but we’re talking about a guy thats already released hundreds of tracks. Also seems fishy to me that so many of those songs use the same instrument sounds in the same way. Same bass sound same lead same drums even the same detuned pads. Idk maybe not but in my 20+ years of listening to Aphex Ive never come across a compilation where almost every artist jocks his sound perfectly.

Took me a minute to figure it out. Looks like the most recent album “Brooklyn” whatever its called is Cool and Frank (sounding like Aphex) whereas the other two albums on there are Coolio and Franco and don’t sound like Aphex. Dont think they are meant to be on the same age.

I've spoken to this artist. It's a guy from Germany, and definitely not RDJ

Yeah, I agree some of the sounds on that IDM compilation sound like AFX sounds but there is something missing in them. On many of the tracks there is a repetition that just isn't found in most RDJ tracks. He fills the music up with lots of details that are always changing, never (rarely) staying the same from measure to measure. I don't find the same level of detail in these tunes. That's the main reason I'm hesitant to believe they're RDJ. There are lots of sonic similarities, and there's maybe 2 or 3 where they actually could be him, but something tells my ears it's not.

Lots of cool tunes there and I'm digging them, so thanks for pointing that direction, but I really don't think it's a bunch of unreleased AFX.

Also does anyone know who Th’idiot is? They only have one EP release in 2011
But theres a bunch of tracks on soundcloud. All of them very Aphexy. Anyone ever talked to or seen that artist live? I got $5 that says no one has met or seen them. I mean it seems strange a person that can pull off that sound suddenly decided 7 years ago that one EP was plenty.

There’s some discussion about and more music from Th’idiot here: https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54954-thidiot-live/

Also he appears to have played a live gig in 2012: https://m.facebook.com/events/392404977476432/

Good shit this person cranked out!

OP on that watm says “live set using 4 vintage tape recorders being mixed in fruityloops 3 being controlled by a midi modified macbeth modular and a abacus” With a picture that is obviously just chopped up clip art or some shit “heres a pic from the show”

I mean if it smelled more like bullshit I would have bullshit coming out of nose.

IMO: 95% of AFX copyists go for the Analord / The Tuss side of his sound. Personally I feel that's a much easier sound to copy than some of his other styles, especially the early material.

I do like some Brainwaltzera, and some Tysk Raiders, but most of this kind of stuff sounds AFX-y but doesn't come close to being convincing IMO

The only artist who I was somewhat convinced of being an AFX alias was a Soundcloud account called Erik (I think?)... 100+ amazing tracks covering the spectrum of early-mid-90s AFX styles (SAW1, SAW2, Polygon Window, Caustic Window, Universal Indicator... all of the pre-drill n bass styles basically), done so well and so convincingly that I contacted him immediately and have been releasing his whole catalog of tracks (all recorded from 1997-1999) on my label Suction Records, under the name RX-101:

https://rx-101.bandcamp.com

Now that's a proper AFX clone!

I think its pretty well known he released a ton of music on soundcloud under a name that was just numbers. A google should find it.

he has a few soundcloud well known track dumps all are "user_______" with a number like "User203209423-" or something.

i don't think there's any unknown afx secret identities anymore..

some of the ones mentioned in this thread are members of WATMM forum. if you want to sleuth out the all the aphex check out the aphex sub at watmm. there's super aphex nerds there

edit: some of the analogical force releases might have an aphex track or two but i haven't looked into it.

yeah.. that's what i figured except for that one track that has all the aphex squiggles and the gauvid stuff but after hearing all of Izapa's instagram jams which have a lot of aphex DNA at times it's easy to hear that people are getting really good at those techniques...

https://www.instagram.com/_izapa/ <---- dope stuff. i hope he finds a label soon to put out his tunes.

also for aphex fans and braindance fans and anyone into that world of tunes i'd check out EOD S1-S9. every one of those releases is a winner imo. i love it all.

coming up with a cool bit is easy. I could pump out 20 a day (and have done so, at home, alone!). Nothing really matters if it doesn't end up as a completed track - that's the most difficult part. Does this guy make tracks or just clips?

[EDIT: ok I see now he has a Soundcloud... it's decent, but... meh. Did you check that RX-101 link I posted? IMO that is proper talent in the AFX realm]

yeah.. i know what you mean. he makes tracks. lot's of tracks. his instagram 'stories'. those little live posts that show up up top in the IG feed have been full of jams over the last 6 or 12 months.

he doesn't post it all to soundcloud. you may have met/spoken him in your travels.. Andrew Felix. he's worked at various southern california synth retailers. i believe he is a builder for some manufacturers from time to time.

yeah.. the RX-101 stuff is cool. some of it is very much of a certain era which i like.. still more to investigate when i have time.

the latest "covert" comp from touched music has a couple tracks that scream "aphex" but who knows.. there's a few tracks that scream BoC as well but probably aren't.. regardless.. it's a solid comp imo. bandcamp is a goldmine of good music and i'm so glad it caught on as a legit format for releasing stuff.

this kinda screams aphex too but as you said it isn't.. i play this all the time in a big playlist of Analogical Force stuff. hmmm..... the last track on there is just so good for the acid squiggles.

Hi. Been lurking here for ages but signed up after reading this topic.
I'm a big fan of th'idiot's music although while I don't get an Aphex vibe from a lot of the stuff on this soundcloud - some of it does make me wonder.

The track at 8:20 in this mix for example.

https://soundcloud.com/thidiot/junebitmix

And this was posted 7 years ago...?
Some other sections in that mix also...
I have messaged their soundcloud page a few times but never got a reply seriously, i just don't get it

Never heard of fxbip before. Some really amazing tracks there too...

beyond some sound design in common, doesn't sound like afx to me at all

honestly, a lot of the stuff in this thread sounds like AFX for a minute or so at most before there's some tell in the composition showing a composition instinct that AFX just hasn't done before, and not in the "Collapse EP sounds like Footwork" kind of way, or more telling a looping that's fine but not really his style.

anyone can use metasynth, composers desktop project, vinyl stop fx and pitchbends to get part of the way there.

holding an entire song together is the tricky thing.

for example, who is steinvord?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TVbVAZjBSo

now, this sounds for real like AFX had a part in it, until the part at 2:25 that feels off to me because of repetition going on for too many measures.

and yet, on this track maybe it's dead-on Squarepusher instead?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCHielWnOWA

so is it a collaboration? is it someone with access to their studios?
