Goiks bamboo Boat with FoH Power: A review

Post by weinglas » Thu Sep 02, 2010 3:33 am

So, now that i have received my bamboo boats almost a week ago, I think it is time to write a little review for those interested in shallow boats/Skiffs and so on.

That's what I am talking about:
viewtopic.php?t=20288&highlight=

These are fabulous looking, 7,5 cm high cases with 105 Hp, powered with the Flight of Harmony Power Module.

Power works as it should and is very easy to handle. Definitely an easy recommendation. As i live in Europe i had to find the right wallwart to go with, and this one does the job:

The boats arrived very well packed and are not only nice to look at, but also nice to touch. They feel lightweight, but at the same time very solid.

The size of the provided sliding nuts is not so common here in Europe, so I exchanged them with M2.5 ones.

The bus boards are Modular World ones and are assembled to the upper left. Therefore remains enough place at the right for some deeper modules. I did not measure it exactly, but 4-5 cm deep modules should fit, where the boards are, and 6 cm deep modules at the right. Two or more boats could be easily put together with four screws for a 6U or 9U boat.

And this is how they look filled:

Bottom line: :tu: :tu: Two thumbs up and i am glad that i have another one to fill :nana: These things are a bargain!

And to Goiks:
It was very nice to discuss with him, how the boats should look and work at the end. I am proud that some of my thoughts went into the final design.

And it was absolutely a pleasure doing business with him. Thanks a lot! :hail:

Looks really nice!

How much did you have to pay for it? And does it come with the f(h) Power module included?

The answer is in the other thread i linked to at the beginning of my post:
they're $125 plus shipping with the modular world busboard, $95/no busboard. that doesn't include flight's power module.
I asked flight to ship the Power Module to goiks!

Flight mentionned the rated output current is 1 A. So two boards should be no problem if they are not filled with Metasonix modules or the Analog Systems RS370.

It is 104 Hp total (really 105!) and the f(h) Power uses 10 Hp.
