Author simplest way to convert DAW notes to CV (1v/oct + trig)

hi

I'm looking for the simplest way to turn DAW notes into 1v/oct + gate/trigger (to feed my gear through the ES-8).
trigger/gate is easy (e.g. play an offset sample) but 1v/oct is a problem.

I'm using FLstudio
I tried to do it with the "fruity keyboard controller" but I can't find the right mapping formula (or any other workaround) to have actual 1v/oct with my notes.

any idea ? must be a simple math formula, but I'm not very good at it.

thanks in advance

cheers

Silent Way?

If by "DAW notes" you mean midi, then there are many solutions.

silent way is overkill. I'm just looking for a way to turn note values into 1V/oct, nothing more. thanks to the tools already available in FLS I'm almost there, I just need the right mapping formula to turn a linear keyboard controller mapping into 1V/oct.

oh btw I already have several hardware midi to cv solutions : I have a Befaco midi thing, 2 distings, a SQ-1 and a mother 32.
I'm really looking for a software solution so I can only use the ES-8.

(BTW2 : I already found a very un-elegant solution : sampling every audio offset position of all 1V/oct notes and playing them with a sampler/slicer. but that sucks, i'd rather use an elegant solution)

I'd usually pull up Max/MSP for something like this, but I'd say your best bet is to just fork the $60 for Silent Way. It may be overkill for what you want, but is an elegant solution for your problem. The LFOs, Envelopes and all else might be fun to play with down the road too. Plus you could make custom mappings so you can play in tune melody's on cv hardware that doesn't respond to 1v/octave.

The other solution I'd look at is CV Toolkit, but it only runs as a stand alone.

Kenton Pro Solo MkII. Works flawlessly. The new MkIII is due out soon. Either one works perfectly. I've owned a MkII for about a decade.

I finally went for silent way

very convenient & flawless. event despite the fact the instrument version of the voice controller doesn't work in FLS (that was also a big downside, although there's a workaround) it's still better than a DIY setup. although I only use 1 plugin of the pack and not even all its functions.

the main issue I had that made me drop working a DIY version of a FL-internal midi to CV solution is the fact that FL does very slight ramps when going from one parameter position to another and although it's somehow relevant for internal DAW usage, that creates unwanted glides between CV values.

I already have plenty of hardware midi to CV solutions. I was aiming at using the ES-8. main reasons : midi jitter & latency issues, when ES-8 is flawless.

wow that's great, thanks for the tip.

thanks for your answers

I'd still recommend a Disting mk4, and just send it midi, using algo G7. Silent Way is cool, too. Expert Sleepers is kinda kicking major ass all around.
