ES-8 in standalone mode - pros and cons

Author ES-8 in standalone mode - pros and cons

Hi Os

I use the ES8 as part of an OSX aggregate device together with a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. Works pretty well with Ableton, although I get some latency when using RTeaktor Blocks (VST) together with my hardware modular.

Questions are:

1. What are the pros and cons of standalone mode?

2. Would I be advantaged in any way (eg reduced latency) if I run the ES8 in standalone? (i.e. if I replace the Scarlett with something with ADAT)?
os
Your latency is quite possibly exacerbated by the use of an Aggregate. Using a single interface with ADAT, and then the ES-8 as an expander, might improve things.

You will then only have 4 inputs from the ES-8 though.

Thanks Os - I don't understand this thought - the ES-8 already only has 4 inputs?

But used over USB it has 12 inputs, including the ADAT channels.
