Computer/dock optical out -> SPDIF format converter ->

Post by DJMaytag » Wed Jun 12, 2019 9:52 am

Has anyone successfully tried using the optical output of a Thunderbolt dock (or similar) to use with an optical to RCA SPDIF converter (ie Midiman CO2) to hook up an ES-40?

I'm not really using channels 1-6 on my ES-3mk4, and I'd looked into a way to split an ADAT Lightpipe stream into 4 stereo SPDIF streams, but the only divide I've found that can do that might be rarer the some Cwjeman modules (a Z-Systems Z-8.8a).

In the meantime, I thought I'd attempt to try using an ES-40 solely for MIDI & sync outputs, with the ES-3mk4 & expanders handling all the CV/gate outputs.

Works. Aggregate of RME Digiface USB & OWC TB3 Dock’s optical out works like a champ routed through a Midiman/M-Audio CO2 converter.

How reliable this is, remains to be seen.
