Synthetic Sound Labs - NEW 5u Delay Module * VIDEO * |
br>ritchiedrums |
br>That's Right Kids!!!
Finally a Cool DOTcom format Digital Delay Module with CV
Doug Slocum has been working with Synths since the 1970s.
He has come out from the shadows & produced the first(of hopefully Many)
Synthetic Sound Labs modules.
I met with him today and have been working with this ALL NIGHT.
This prototype is a well made, PRETTY, 5u module(like .Com, STG, COTK, etc....) Knobs feel smooth & the jacks are TOP SHELF!!
SPECS & PRICE:
http://www.steamsynth.com/m_DigitalDelay.aspx
Here are 3 audio samples:
1) Basic bass line MIDI sequence via MOTM-650 (DOTcom VCO, filter, envelope & VCA + Mattson LFO & Envelope)
It starts dry. When the digital delay first comes in it almost has more of a a reverb vibe, not harsh. Then adding the LFO to the CV input takes us to a whole other Planet!! TRI LFO is used & I'm tweeking all the parameters throughout....)
2) SECOND - This is a counter-line to go with the bassline. (Same modules are used, but now with the HP out of the filter)
SQR LFO is used & the CV levels are higher creating more harsh effects.
3) This is the drum track (KICK=DOTcom VCO, Filter, Env+VCA - SNR= DOTcom VCO, ENV, Noise, VCA+MOTM-1485 GX-1 Diode Filter(the TOM is the same patch, but with the MOTM ladder VCF instead....CYM= MATTSON VCF) The Kick & TOM were recorded to seperate tracks & the delay module was used as reverb. The SNR & CYM were recorded to one track & the CV-Delay is applied only to that track......... I really like the character this module adds to these analog drums!!

br>Checked out the website - Looks like a company that fills the gap with the modules they have planned so far, parametric filter and steiner filter. Could get exciting! Wonder what price range the modules will be. Ordered a Modcan digital delay and the total was over $700. br> br> |

Cotk is 366 Euros but it's only 1200 ms delay... if SSL stays low in price this delay could be a winner... sound is very interesting br> br> |

br>Cool 8_)
What's the spec?
Max/Min delay time?
Self oscillate?
Does the CV control the delay time?

br>Sounds good.
Waiting for more spec but if the price is correct it would be mine, for sure. br> br> |

br>Nice to see others excited about this module!
I agree that the price is a main factor.
Hopefully Doug will be able to offer a significant discount on the first run.

Yes, was thinking the same thing.
The preliminary Web page morphs into discussing a parametric filter, though, no? br> br> |

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix that up soon. It's what happens when you're busy designing synths and web sites all at the same time. br> br> |
