200e-USB Firmware Utility DFU-programmer: no device present

Post by ws9848 » Thu Sep 12, 2019 12:08 am

I was just trying to load some firmware onto the firmware card and it didn’t seem to be working the way it did last time I used it. After about an hour of me being annoyed my wife asked me if it was because she updated the OS on the mac. It is now mojave 10.14.6 as of a couple weeks ago. Does anyone know if the firmware utility works with mojave?

I just tried another computer an I get the same thing. I also get a DFU- programmer device not present message. What the heck does that mean?

I was able to setup a virtual Mojave machine on my PC with its USB2 ports. Loading the firmware worked fine.

Ok thanks. it worked before but now its not working. The light on the card flashes and the utility says restarting card with new firmware but nothing happens. After a while if I try to load the firmware it says no usb firmware card detected

I’m using a macbook pro from 2015. It should have 2 USB 3 ports on it.

Must be the latest update then. Just checked the version of my virtual machine and it says 10.14.3.

Definitely not cool.

Did you try another physical USB port on the Mac? Did you retry with a different USB cable? Is the USB cable a data cable or just a charging cable?

I tried it with the same cable that worked the last time I successfully updated some firmware so the cable should be ok. However, I did try 3 cables total. Yes, I also tried different ports

Yes, I tried both options and neither of them seem to work

I'm having a similar problem. I pick "Enable USB Firmware Update" and the message says "restarting", but the card's LED just blinks forever.

I paid $99 for the card and never got to use it.

Anyone know of a fix? I have tried with two different cables on two different Macs.

What OS version do you have?

I talked to Buchla a lot about this and they determined their utility application will need to be updated. Not sure if it’s the same issue you’re having but even when I tried with a different computer with an older OS my card still got the same thing. I hope the update will make everything just work.

You should make a ticket with them though if you haven't already.

Tried it with Mojave and Sierra.

I'll open a ticket. Thanks!

Same problem here.
Got a brand-new firmware card today. Had exactly the same message under OSX 10.14.6!
Worked slightly better under OSX 10.9.5 with pluging in and outpluging the card several times (especially after the "Restarting card with new firmware..." message).
Managed to updated the modules and now getting the firmware card recognized as 225m. Can "Enable USB MIDI I/O" on OSX 10.14.6, but not loading any firmware. Couldn't find out any coherent behaviour though.

Did you get a new firmware card? Everything working now?

I filed a bug report with Buchla and they told me to basically "try turning it off and back on again." I told them that wasn't working and they never responded. I put the USB card in a drawer and wrote off the $100. :/

They sent me a new firmware card and that one did the same thing as my old one did. So then they finally told me that the utility application is going to need to be updated so who knows how long that will take! I told them I was having this issue on 9/12/19 so its already been 4 months since I made them aware of this problem. It kind of sucks....

Ill just chime in here with my experiences, as I use the card all the time to send midi clock to my 218e with lots of quirks.

I've noticed that most of the time I have to plug everything in in a very specific order for everything to work properly. If my computer doesn't see the card, I'll restart my Buchla without the card in it and make sure the preset manager boots. Then I plug the card in, w/out USB plugged in. And then I'll plug in the USB. And if everything goes according to plan I'll see the red light on the card flash. For whatever reason if I boot up my Buchla w/ the card plugged in and the USB plugged into the card it rarely works.

Might just be a quirk of my system. BTW I'm running an old cheese-grater Mac w/ Mojave. When I works I have no issues sync'n by Buchla w/ Pro Tools.

I see there is a new firmware update application on the buchla website. I downloaded it and I am still having problems. I am having different problems than before but I am still unable to update any of the modules I need to update.

If you were having problems before try the new app and hopefully it works better for you. I have told buchla my new issues

Is using a JTAG programmer, like the ST-Link/V2 an option for updating?

You‘ll need a SiLabs programmer for 200e modules.
Works fine but for some modules you‘ll need a special cable.

I must be stupid or something because the modules I was trying to update have old firmware. When I press remote enable they do not show up on the program manager. I thought I could go from 2 to 3 for some reason. I tried updating a module that did not beed updating just to see if everything was working the way I expected it to and it did. It worked. I just have some modules that can’t be updated. Can we not go from 2 to 3?
