208 ToolBox build thread.

Post by Puzzler » Tue Sep 17, 2019 4:50 am

Hello,

my ToolBox Batch 5 doesnt change "MO Lo" frequency at all. Trimming doesnt help.
The MO LO resistor is 120k? Or should i try another value?

"MO Hi" does work though.

Hi
Can you please post good pics of both sides of your populated PCB ?

A 120k resistor is missing above the switch.
Looks like that for some odd reason it wasn't silkscreened on your PCB at the factory.

i have a problem with my 208 toolbox. None of the leds work on the CV mixer or Envelope gen. Cv in works on the envelope gen but when self is selected nothing happens and the evenvelope goes out.
the cv for the stages work but i cannot select 2 stages...

when i switch to front panel on the 208 the problem stay the same and when i select prog board the 208 leds go out.

Is it powered properly ? You can check power rails on the +15V/0V/-15V pads.

I post the reply I was writing however, may be helpfull for someone else.

First check the rails on the 208 edge connector.
powerrails.jpg
If wrong, check the connections in the 208.

If the voltages on the 208 edge connector are ok the problem is on the ToolBox, remove the ICs and check voltages on the ToolBox.
If still wrong, check your solder joints for a short, a bridge...
If ok put the ICs back in place one by one and check voltages. Replace the faulty IC.

I am soldering the rev5 toolbox and can not find the 5th 100k position. I have one left in the bag. Any hint?

Store this resistor preciously for another build, 4 100k only are needed.

Thank you. I was confused because the bag listed 5 of it.
And the „1 OR x2“ bag is also confusing me or does it read „10 R x2“. (Sorry I have build som thonk kits that came with a step by step soldering manual)
PS:
Is there any step by step guide online?

I'm happy to offer technical support for the build but the kits are not my business and I have no control over their content. For questions and remarks on this purpose, please contact the kit seller.

There's no step by step guide. As well mentioned in the disclaimer at the bottom of http://www.portabellabz.be/toolbox.html, this project is for experienced people able to read and understand the build notes, to solder neatly and to troubleshoot their own build. ;)

Hey!
I am building a toolbox, a Perf bob and a bob expander.
Could someone point me upon some small circuits that fit in there as otpion?
I am interested in slew limiter, (inverting) CV mixer, audio mixer.
Thanks guys!
Bye Friedemann

Those are simple circuits, there are many examples based on a dual opamp on the net.

208 Toolbox LED voltages.

The BOM indicates that the LED resistors are SOT. It would be easier if I knew what voltages are driving the LEDs so I could determine correct series resistor on a breadboard with the LEDs I will use, even better than mounting the resistors on the back of board.

These voltages would be a useful addition to the Build Notes.

Swapping SOT resistors is straighforward, no need to solder, just insert the leads into the holes to make contact. Obviously several hundreds of builders did so successfully, no one ever asked for the LED driving voltages so far.

However, here are those if you want to do the maths.
The EG looper LED is driven by +1V.
The mixer LED is driven by the mixer output voltage rectified, from 0V to close to +13V.
