[this] is a [that] killer.

Post by Mr. Sound Boy King » Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:06 pm

Hello,

I searched but could not find this thread in "General Gear." Please point me to it if it exists. Having gotten those formalities out of the way...

I find myself quite interested in gear which kills other gear.

For example, Volca FM is a DX-7 killer.

Or, the new 707 is a Digitakt killer.

For example, the Deluge is an Octatrack killer.

And so on.

I am curious if any of you believe you know of some gear which kills other gear.

Thanks,

David

No, of course not. This was merely an example. One might also claim Volca New Tube is a TB-303 killer... but one would be wrong.

So morbid!

An easy one : Practically any box NOT made by the following companies kills the gear made by these companies:

- Elektron - of course!
-Teenage Engineering - aka the IKEA of music hardware
- Korg (anything since the Prophecy/Z1/Wavedrum although they get one point for the Minilogue XD)
- Arturia
- IK Multimedia
- Any company with the i- prefix in its name or product names
- Apple

If properly placed, a Yamaha GX-1 will kill most gear (under it) :hihi:

OMG, I find this very distressing. I knew that Triangle Man was a fighter, but hadn't realised that this had resulted in murder!

Not touching this one. Too many openings. I never could fill in Mad Libs without getting in trouble.

Nope - the obsession with "best gear" is just something said by folk who think "if only I had xxxx I'd make that great album" :p

We have currently such an amazing array of music tech that there is simply no reason not to create to your potential.
Every time I see/hear a "musician" whinging about a company or piece of tech I know deep down they are a failure in themselves and in what they try to create

Isn't it, though?
I think it is, given that we as a species have evolved towards 3 notes polyphony, microscopic touch keyboards and living in pods. It is the future and it's beautiful.

Deluge and Octatrack aren't even in the same category therefore are not in competition.
