What VCF to recreate Arp sound?

Post by drdel » Wed Oct 09, 2019 3:54 am

Hello, what VCF would you recommend as best suitable for re-creating the early Tonus-Arp 2600 sound? AMS is presently unavailable, Steffcorp 4012 and SE 4075 (the latter built based on the later 4072 filter) I am really uncertain if they fit the bill ... I may be able to get a G Storm Tonus second hand ... also not sure about volume drop as result of resonance dialed up... many thanks for any help! drdel

I can vouch for Steffcorp 4012. I own both a 1971 Tonus and the 4012. The 4012 is so close I can't hear a difference. The volume drop is part of the charm. I heard it on the GStorm demos too. Anyway if you specifically want the early Tonus sound, avoid the 4072 clones.

I don't have any of GStorm's ARP filters (thinking about the 4023, though), but their Roland filters are all really good both in terms of design and sound.
