Compressor/Limiter/Gate/Ducker..in one euro module ?

Post by Midiot » Thu Nov 28, 2019 11:35 pm

This "limiter/ducker/compressor/gate" unit is often a standard 19" rack component in a recording studio setting, DJ usage......quite often for voice microphones, drum beats.....and other creative places.

Are there any high-quality units in eurorack ?..... that combine all of these in a single unit ?

You can patch any of these with a VCA and an envelope follower ;)

If you can DIY there's a great module from God'sBox called the Lollipop.

Compression with Sidechain, and two different modes (FET or Vactrol)

I used to own a Drawmer DS201 ducker/gate ....it was fun when I was working with XLR cables.
Or Klark Teknik, Valley People, or DBX.

Probably Gemini’s Path, the new module by Shakmat, does pretty much what you’re looking for in 6hp

Thanks for pointing that !

To be honest the Gemini's Path is not reacting like a real compressor or gate as it fires envelops on VCAs when a trigger is detected in the inputs or side chain input. So depending on your application it could be the perfect tool or not the tool at all (in case you are looking for something that glue your mix or a real limiter for example)

So, is there a minimum "trigger" voltage to fire the envelope ?
Looks like it is a good tool for drums and beats. 6hp is nice.

yep, I realised it's not exactly what he's looking for but, as you said, it could somehow be...

The module has an envelop follower with a gate detector the threshold is settable with a potentiometer. So it can be triggered by trigger, audio signal or modulation sources.

I've been looking around for a small gain/limit module for the feedback loop of my Harvestman Tyme Sefari MkII and noticed the Limit-L1 Triple Limiter.
