Author ipad - will the buyer lose the apps?
Nelson Baboon
If I sell my ipad to a wiggler, what happens to the apps. One potential buyer said that he thinks that when he syncs, all the apps will be wiped out.

Is this true? Even if the registration of the ipad is switched?
hbc
The apps are linked to the apple store account with which they were purchased. Once the buyer syncs it in iTunes, it will wipe out anything loaded on it by the previous owner.

Maybe there is some sort of jailbreak workaround that I'm not aware of.
chinard
yep, apps are linked to your itunes store account
You could try talking to someone at customer support and see if they will let you transfer purchases but i'm pretty doubtful that they will do it.

gotta love DRM...
locking you out of software that you legally own.
JayEm
you don't own software
you hold a license to use it
TrashWaveform
If you do not use the Apple account perhaps you can remove your billing details and give him the account? Otherwise he will eventually lose them on a sync or update.

I own the software. The law doesn't quite equal the truth.

when you purchase the license to use the software you're entering a legal contract
telling yourself that the law isn't right doesn't change the fact you agreed to their terms when you gave them your money
Nelson Baboon
Did you not understand what I said? People consider themselves to own what they buy. The fact that the law says otherwise - well, we have a very corporate friendly set of laws in this country.

All you need to do is de-authorize your iPad from your iTunes account. You can re-install these apps on your new device. You can have multiple devices synced to a single account. You can get these answers direct form Apple in their FAQ's...
noobyscooby
But you can only have one account. You can't transfer the apps from one account to another account. He is looking to sell his iPad with the music apps and I was looking to buy it earlier.

did you read the fine print to make sure before you handed them your money?

*edit*

nm, already been asked.

If you buy a license, you own a license.

If you buy a big plastic and metal piece of shit that takes up space in your house and costs 1000x what you pay for a synth app, you own a synthesizer.

I have to agree with this logic. The apps are insanely cheap. Most around 99 cents to a couple of dollars. If an 808 clone app on there even costs 10 dollars you still got it got for a fraction of the price of a real one. And last time I checked Rebirth had that, the 909, and two 303s for $10. They have modulars on that thing for $5. You also have to ability to play it in the studio, on stage, in a plane. or in the shitter effortlessly. And that last location is a very vital location for most of us.

And the ability to have a synth connect to email or bukakke porn are features far from hardware.

... no one takes the modular into the shitter with them? hmmm.....

In the case of 5U wigglers, it's much easier to take the shitter into the studio.

Edit: regarding the iPad issue; just make it clear to the buyer that you will sell it without any installed apps. You will have to reset the iPad to factory defaults in order to delete all your personal details, anyway.
