Things you don't need but you want
I used to hate seeing threads like this, now I'm starting one....
hmmm....
I really dont have the luxury to collect right now, or really
have anything that I dont use all the time.
But there are a few things I would really like to spend some time
with(when I can do that sort of thing again), and it makes me wonder
what others out there feel similar about and have on their list.
Im 24, I started "playing around" with electronic music in 2002
with a computer.
Got my first pieces of hardware in late 2004(yamaha AN1X,Novation SBS)
Didn't really make anything worth hearing untill 2006. So I'm pretty much a noob,
but I still take pride in most of my choices I have made(recent ones anyway).
The Pro one, evolver, mobius,Metasonix stuff, and small modular start being my favorites.
Now I have an idea of the ways I'm interested in experimenting
and would like to go back to some of the older gear that was used
to make some of my favorite recordings, which I know X gear doesnt
equal X sound blah blah blah...but Im interested in putting myself
in a "similar" environment to experiment with "old dated sounds.."
(If that makes sense....I'm not trying to imitate and be a clone of
some of my influences)
-Ensoniq ESQ-1 or SQ-80
Has a little sequencer onboard,has a 61 key keyboard,
lots of waveforms, analog filters, cheap polyphonic wavetable synth.
Im not interested in the rack, although I really dont have space
for another keyboard....I definitly want to spend some time
with one and get some recordings done, then maybe sell it after
the recordings are made..I'll figure it out when the time comes.
-Yamaha RY-30
There are a lot of reasons for the curiousity of this one,
Lots of waveforms, resonant filters, has pads to bang on,has a mod wheel,
4 outs(very cool), lots of reasons to be inspired to experiment.
I also have a good amount of processors and fuzzers, etc to run this
through, and they are all hungry.
-Kurzweil K-2000s/K-2000rs
Not really a fan of "Everything you need in one package" units,
but this one really has a lot inside,effects,sampler,V.A.S.T,etc.
I dont know if I could be effectively creative with it
or if it would just be too much, and hard to focus.
But I would definitly be willing to try and see what comes out.
Im sure it would be a lot of fun with a TM-1 on the end,
actually 2 TM-1's for stereo use.
I think thats it for now, the K-2000s being the last priority.

I'll play along...
EDP Wasp: Big fan of battery powered gear in general...and to me this is the holy grail of rare battery powered synths... however, I cannot justify spending $1000 on one these days...due to the fact it wouldn't be something I would use alot.
Metasonix S1000: Sounds cool...but too much of a niche synth for my needs... I don't need one, but sure would love one.
All Metasonix boxes: Yeah, it would be nice to have them all... but for my needs...the TM-1 and TM-6 are good enough. Still love looking at those pics when people own them all.
Luckily, I can resist all of the above.

an old roommate of mine had an SQ-80, and i don't think they were as hot as their rep...to me they sounded very 80's and "keyboardy", think digital "oohs and ahhs", bells, pads, etc...the programming was ok, but i think you'd be better off with any decent sampler...the analog filters were ok, but again, you could get an old Emu sampler with Z-Plane filters and do much more...then again you could do that much easier in software

Ehhh...its ok...Its a Virus b with a small keyboard...ross g wrote:speaking off stuff you don't need: i saw a Virus Indigo at a music store the other day for a grand, is that a good price? i only played with it for a minute but was pretty uninspired by the general sound of it...
I have a Virus b that i got for around $600 and it has its uses,
The indigo II is a Virus C which has more DSP,effects,a few more filter emulations, way bigger mod matrix.
I'd like to have a Virus C someday, but not enough to pay for one,
very cool synth, but just not anything I want to invest anymore into,
too many other things to get first

on my Virb page the live december jams are the ER-1 ran into the Virus.
And I use on pretty much everything else I do in small amounts and sometimes large amounts.

Here's something I wanted and needed and got: a vasectomy! No loud, hungry, obnoxious brats and I feel more creative than I have in years!
OK, OK, the Modcan frequency shifter.
Buchla , Serge , Modcan A, Cyndustries monster with a huge panel of banana jack interfaces!

Yamaha Troy Van Leeuwen Hollow Body : (http://www.yamaha.com/guitars/products/ ... CT,00.html)
EMS Synthi, EMS Synthi, EMS Synthi
That would do me pretty well for now.

and I said Octopus Sequencer, oooooooooh yeah
lemme add a few things...
Nigella Lawson
Buchla SOU
Buchla 200e
Buchla Marimba Lumina
Musser Marimba
Bode Frequency Shifter
Musser Vibraphone
Two More Wives
Latronic Notron
Mu-Tron BiPhase
Porsche 911 Carrera 4
Ducati 916, Early 90's model
Vintage Strat
Vintage P-Bass
