does the POWER require a busboard?

Post by jah_vengeance » Fri May 06, 2011 9:54 am

13″ Doepfer-style 18AWG wire harness with quick-connect connectors

yo. I was thinking of sorting out a small skiff thing and powering it using the foh "power", but unsure of what this sentence means:
"13″ Doepfer-style 18AWG wire harness with quick-connect connectors"

is that referring to something like the daisy chain power connector that comes with the Makenoise "din power" module, or is it basically just some leads which you connect to a bus board (such as one by doepfer)?

looking to make something as compact as possible, so not sure I could fit a doepfer bus board in the skiff i had in mind.

cheers!

My power modules had no bus boards, just the cables for connecting to two Doepfer busboards each.

the quick connectors are little wires that have connectors that slide on to the terminal of the busboard and appear to be the same style as guitar speakers. I'm waiting for a MW busboard right now. from the picture on their site it looks like it has terminals that are fastened by tightening a screw down onto the stripped wire. I dunno, all I have right now is a foh power module. patiently waiting for the rest

the foh power module has spade connectors and leads, no flying busboard. it's a nice solution if you have 75mm or so to work with and can have a busboard.

for a minimalist skiff, check out the power solutions from make noise, they are the shallowest.

Power bus/distribution boards are in development and should be available pretty soon. I'm also looking into alternative distro options, I'll let you know when they're ready.

thanks for all the info.

good to hear you are planning some distribution thing mr Flight.
I was needing to sort something out by the end of this month for a skiff, so might go for the tiptop power thing.

cheers again.

It would be nice to see how those who have the power modules have used them. Pictures please!

flight: what is this alternative distro board you are talking about? understandable if you aren't talking about it yet, but i hope this is something like a star ground distribution or anything else that might be an improvement on the standard doepfer busboard.

Man every time somebody posts in this thread the FoH subforum lights up, and I think "oh boy, if I click on that I'll get another dose of noise and terror" only to find out it's more conversation about BUSBOARDS.
