Author Embed almost ANY video! (Vimeo, Myspace, YouTube, etc...)
Muff Wiggler
Hooray, I've just integrated some pretty slick BBCode that will allow you to embed a TON of different online video formats into your forum posts

and to make it easy on you, no matter what kind of video you are embedding, you use the same easy to remember BBcode tag, 'video'.

example....

Code:
[video]http://www.vimeo.com/173714[/video]

Here's what's currently tested and supported..... (others MAY work, as the preprocessor is pretty damn intelligent, but YMMV, I've tried quite a few not on this list and they DIDN'T work)....

Confirmed as working:

Vimeo
YouTube
GoogleVideo
MetaCafe
StarsClips
MySpace Video
Veoh
Gametrailers
Vidiac
MegaVideo
MyVideo
CollegeHumor
ComedyCentral
Revver.com
SevenLoad.com
ClipFish.de

This originally started as a project to add embedded Vimeo support to the forum (thanks macumbista for the suggestion!) which quickly grew to support all the above formats. Have fun!

Here's some more examples in case you are looking for the correct syntax (which is just about identical regardless, you just use the 'video' tags and then throw in the URL between the tags....) for various video sites....

Code:
[video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF7AFdNp508[/video]

Code:
 [video]http://video.google.it/videoplay?docid=-18075660093556083 01[/video]

Thanks much! How could I have known that one little PM to you would have started such an avalanche???

sorta ot.. i recently switched to firefox and noticed that my noisering video isn't showing up on my website's video page.

i'm guessing there might be a universal code for explorer and mozilla. any ideas?

yes, don't use SpiderCocks.

Whenever I get a PM from someone who is having login or rendering problems with this forum, it always turned out they are using that browser. I know it's all hypey and supports lots of cool extensions and stuff, but it's not fully compliant - this forum doesn't use any browser-specific code, it's all spec-compliant PHP, HTML and Java.

I know it has a Mozilla core so I wonder if perhaps its the extensions and 'plugins' that create issues for the forum.

Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful and productive in my reply, but in my experience, SpiderCocks = Problems

oops

hehe, more like "don't use faulty flash-embedded videos" - it doesn't work in Safari, either, Kwote confused - I reckon there's something wrong with surrounding software, since I can see from the page source that it's a simple youtube embed... and if I copy that "destination" part of the code out I can easily paste the whole thing into a new window and view it.

Perhaps because within this tech-aware segment it's by far the most popular browser? I think it was like 93% of all hits to our website are from FireFox browsers (I like analytics software, what can I say?)
Muff Wiggler
google analytics integration not withstanding, you must have a really simple website razz

it's actually a rather involved network of joomla hot-rodding with heaps of things under the hood, including a fully customized comments mode and so on.

- BUT that doesn't change the fact that people are viewing with FireFox razz

I think what we're facing here, with the VERY few issues with this gorgeous forum must be inherent within phpbb... dunno why, I think I feel the same about phpBB as you do about Firefox, hehe - this forum excluded, mind you! SlayerBadger!

hey now mad

I was trying to post a flash video from gearwire, but couldn't get it to work.

I found some help at this site:
http://www.freeforum.ca/forums/phpbb3-manuals-guides/436679-how-post-f lash-posts-forum-description.html

but it doesn't seem like [flash][/flash] tags don't work.

Is that correct?

Only if Muff is running on PHPBB3 and has it enabled. Which I doubt.
Muff Wiggler
yeah sorry, no phpbb3 here, and no flash support :(
decaying.sine
thanks for the info Muff. I just stuck the URL in my post so that will be fine.

Pretty sure you can get a script for it if you wanted seeing how the embedded videos are flash.
Muff Wiggler
have you tried embedding it using:
Code:
 [video] URL HERE [/video]

video tags? Don't know if it will work but worth a try
decaying.sine
i did try embedding it using video and it didn't work. the flash player is on the gearwire site so I thought it might work. seriously, i just don't get it
