There's an app for Tenori-on now, it seems that the new firmware update for the hardware version and the app can exchange date and control eachother, also looks like you can collab over the internet, pretty cool.

not available in the US itunes store... yet.

Weird, its on the uk store priced at £11.99, so maybe that about $14.99?

As far as I can tell it is an exact replica of the hardware minus the 3 user slots for 'samplings' not sure if advanced mode is enabled. Wonder if it outputs midi?

It's probably a time-zone thing. Our release date is for today.

I'm a bit pissed off with my Tenori-On at the moment.

I had really high hopes of using it as a sequencer companion to my new baby Tinysizer. But I hadn't noticed how it puts out sysex data with every button press. Which turns out is quite easy to spot now because it locks up the Tinysizer midi interface every fucking time. very frustrating

Sure I can loop the midi through MidiPipe and filter out the sysex no problem but I really wanted to get free of the computer.

Would be great if it had an option to kill the jibber jabber and use it just as a vanilla midi controller but it seems that Yamaha's plans for it lie somewhere other.

It's starting to look like B/S/T might be in its future.

just picked this up, first impressions are that they cloned the interface warts and all, seems pretty stable too.

Will try the advanced features later on when i get some time

No instrument should crash from any MIDI input. Blame the Tinysizer!

I feed a Tenori-On through an Encore Expressionist to get 8x16 step CV/Gate tracks and it works great.

It's not the Tinysizer so much as the midi interface it uses

http://m.bareille.free.fr/mcv876/mcv876.html

which is used fairly widely.

I haven't yet narrowed down exactly how or why it locks the interface but the fact is that, if the sysex is filtered from T-O output, it works perfectly. If it isn't, the interface locks.

I'll research it some more and post a bug report to the interface maker if I can narrow things down a bit more.

I think the Expressionist is a bit over-specified for my particular needs.

That's a bummer that the midi interface locks up. I use my Tenori-on with an old Roland MPU-101 4 channel cv to midi box, and a Vermona DRM 2 with no problems.

Using a bounce layer to play the DRM and 4 random layers to play 4 different modular voices is polyrhythmic, polyphonic awesomeness.

any MW discount? i kid, i kid. beer!

still not in US store yet.

You can get a MIDI filter and filter out all the Sysex before it gets to the module. There are some fairly cheap little boxes that hang off the MIDI cable (and are powered by it) that are out there.

I use my T-O as a sequencer all the time. It does work better with a MIDI>CV converter or with a device that can easily change the envelope lengths since the T-O has limited controls in that regard. I usually have it connected to a spare old laptop running Reason. I have a reason set that is mapped for the T-O and it works great.

Leaving out the 3 user sounds it totally mystifying to me - the iPad would make that so much easier than the T-O. And longer sounds to. Loading those sounds into the T-O from the memory card takes way too much time. I doubt that there is a way to save sessions on the iPad version to play in the hardware version either. I haven't bought it yet but I may - I would for sure if that feature was there.

Don't suppose you've got a link to any of these have you James?

I've been looking around for something exactly like that but most of what I saw was way too over-engineered (read expensive). A little, cheap, self-powered filter would be perfect.

This one comes to mind right up:

http://www.midisolutions.com/prodrte.htm
http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm
http://www.midisolutions.com/prodepp.htm#

They make a ton of cool little devices. I have a couple of units that used to be sold under the name of "Pocket" - I have the Pocket Channel - but they don't seem to be in business anymore.

For a little more control there is this one from Phil Rees:

http://www.philrees.co.uk/products/process.htm

And of course if you are into Arduino hacking there is:

http://tomscarff.110mb.com/products_prices.htm

I guess there are not as many of theses as there used to be. I assume it is all in the software now or as VSTs or such.

When dealing with Apple, the answer is pretty much "no". I'll let you know if anything changes on that front though.
I've no idea as to why it isn't on the U.S. store. I only deal with Europe so I'm a bit out of the very latest of developments in the Land o' Stars 'n' Bars.
