Author What filter???

Hello All,

I am in need of another filter. Something nasty(ish). I have three

AS Synthi Filter
Plan b M12
QMMG

I like Vactrols but need something a bit different.

Cheers,

If you're looking for something a bit different in the euro realm, maybe look into the stg P-L/LPF
http://www.analoguehaven.com/stgsoundlabs/postlawsuitlowpassfilter/
It's a great sounding filter (very tweakable as well).
It can sound sweet or nasty.

Polivoks Polivoks
Great, interesting, can get nasty, The Harvestman.
Nuff said.

So many filter threads,
don't understand the attraction really...

I'll concur on the Harvestman Polivoks filter. Definitely does the nasty like a junkyard dog on yer leg.

I'll throw out the Analogue Solutions SY02 and the Filtered Coffee (a rack-mount item with 2 x SY02 filter/VCAs in the box)

SY02 Dope Jam from ASol Site
1-VCO-SUB going through the filter.
2-Drums going through
3-Self resonating filter modulated by the LFO-NZ module.
4-Vocals going through the highpass filter which is modulated by LFO-NZ
5-Self resonating filter modulated by LFO-NZ module.
6-Vocals going through the low-pass filter which is modulated by LFO-NZ

In typical Analogue Solutions fashion, you get a few more features with every module. The SY02, like the Filtered Coffee rack mount unit, has a built-in VCA. You also get attenuators for both CV inputs.

Please see this all-too-similar thread for all-too-similar information:

<-- !!

edit: it's a no good pic but it is A-124 Wasp Filter

I would go with the qmmg, it can be so many things and it sounds great, I is an understatement to think of it as a LPG, well it is that , but it`s 10 other things too... quad filter, dual stereo filter, dual bpf for vocal sounds, cv processor, LPG, VCA, mixer, etc etc. Most of these it can be at the same time, I still find new things that you can do with this, this is da thing to go for...

I second that even though I have no Boogie just one Borg 2. However, the Borg 2 is my absolute fav. filter and I'm definately looking forward for a 2nd one and a Borg. Think, you can't go wrong with Grant's designs.

Oh yeah,
for nasty but not traditional:
Flight of Harmony Plague Bearer
The new design sounds tasty!

Yes!

Somehow I always forget PB when I'm talking about filters 'cause I see it more like an effect like my circuit bent Boss DS-1 : )

Exactly the same meme here.

jawdrop

madman! I guess if subtractive synthesis is your thing you can't beat options 8)

I kinda lied, I have a Waldorf 4 Pole I can hook up should I feel the need & I'm looking forward to the SSM2044 kit I've got on the way but mostly for use as a nice sine VCO.

I agree about not counting the PB as a filter! It adds to much love

I'd have to give another thumbs up to the ASol filter, I have the Filtered coffee, since way before I got into modular stuff and it rocks.

The Mankato is also really good both as a filter with different LP outputs and is a great sine oscillator. And Polyvoks is a badboy.. twisted

I have SY02 too and it gets used frequently. But I'd say that my Doepfer A-106-1 is way nastier MS-20 filter clone. But my Harvestman Polivoks, Doepfer A-124, Flight of Harmony Plague Bearers and Metasonix TM-2 beat both of them if we are talking dirty and nasty.

"Nasty" is of course a matter of personal taste.
richardm123uk
Thank you for all your advise. It is looking like the Polivoks will be my choice. I was thinking Evil Twin but as the exchange rate between US & Canada is dire, the Polivoks seems a best choice.
Kent
Oh, shit yeah! TM-2 FTW!
