Author what do you play on repeat while sleeping

I have found that the collaborations between
alva noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto (Insen & Vrioon)
to be absolutely phenomenal,
and great to sleep with, even at a high volume.
I usually can only sleep with music just barely above the level of
audibility, but this is different.
the music is very subtle and nonintrusive,
but very captivating at the same time.
weaving you through statikky perturbances and stuttering piano samples
and sinewave kiks to lull you into lullaby land.....
um.......... yeah..

i roll my own thumbs up

but Olive's sleeping pill series is a huge inspiration for me:

Oh cool how is Z'ev?
i had just discovered Z'ev on discogs while doing research on
older experiemental music for my radio show
it looks like he did a collab with Ptv too,
i think thats why it rang a bell with me.

That's the one, "Direction Ov Travel". Z'EV has done a lot of great stuff, but not everything is suitable for sleeping to.
amnesia
merzbow really quiet. I dont think I have slept without headphones on for 20 years.
Babaluma
z'ev also used to be in a band with rex probe. there's a good "thelema now" podcast interview with him somewhere...

i never listen to music for sleeping, i find it distracting and that it actually stops me from sleeping.

i've heard people say robert rich's "somnium" is good for that purpose. i just like to listen to it normally. wink

Black Antlers lately.

+1

I usually spin SAW2 by Aphex Twin.

Preferably, rain / thunderstorms. The real type.
Or alternatively, complete silence.

Syntonic Research "Environments I: Psychologically Ultimate Seashore" is good to go to sleep to with the Dusk side of their Dusk/Dawn At New Hope Pennsylvania as a alternative. The Dawn side is good to wake up by. For a calmer, more subtle ride, I can also recommend The Atmosphere Collection's "A week in Hawaii:Midnight Rainshower" album. The Seashore and Hawaii ones are an hour long. There are others in the series (the week in Hawaii series has waterfalls, thunderstorms etc) and they all are on iTunes.
Great for blocking out the neighbors...

+1 absolutely love their collabs. can't really sleep with music on but it helps me fall asleep sometimes. really like Oval for this too, I can listen to that in any environment but its very soothing. I always sleep with a fan on for some amount of noise

Thanks for this link! I have ordered all 3 in the series. I'm really taken by the samples I have heard.

I use Pulse Emitter's 'Meditative Music' series, and Eliane Radigue's 'Trilogie De La Mort', but mostly I use BBC Radio 4!

you won't be dissapointed thumbs up

and thank you for the recommendations!

Haven't done this for a long time, but used to go to sleep with music every night. Probably the two albums I put on the most were Keith Jarrett's Spheres and Structures from Silence by Steve Roach.

Warmth - Debbie Downer and We All Follow

Pretty easy to fall asleep to since the same tones are used for about fifteen minutes. Ripped the tape to my player so I can put it on repeat.

Kevin Drumm is another easy one. Sheer Hellish Miasma, Imperial Distortion, etc.

Also, depending on my frame of mind... The Cure's Carnage Visors.
zerosum
Lots of Steve Roach, Pete Namlook, Robert Rich, Synaesthesia, delerium, lustmord, bill laswell.

Floaty trippy ambient texture stuff

NWW-Salt Marie Celeste
Mirror-almost anything

When everyone is away on vacation and I'm here alone it's a tossup between Musick To Play In The Dark by Coil or the first CD of Skinny Puppy Brap: Back and Forth vol 3/4. Both make for entertaining dreams.
