Damn!! 10 genlock cameras for $500 is almost enough motivation for me to switch my entire rig over to PAL.
Yes genlock will allow you to bring in multiple cameras w/o the use of the upcoming Frame Synchronization module which brings in one asynchronous camera in addition to the input at the VSG. for every unsynced additional camera you would need a Time base corrector or the Frame sync module

Instead you can get the Color Video Interface module. this will bring in 3 genlocked cameras.. or one color video input via component I believe..

i just found 3 genlocks for 10 bucks!!!
the VSG does not synchronize the camera to the LZX's timing, it synchronizes the LZX to the camera's timing. So you can have one camera plugged in as the sync 'master', but any other camera will be running out-of-time with the system. It only makes sense to have a single VSG - this distributes the timing to the oscillators and the CVE.

The easiest way to get video in to the LZX would be to have the cameras capable of genlocking to the system itself. Then the timing isn't a problem, and you could plug a b/w or RGB signals directly into the system, or you could scale it with the TVP first. There is also a forthcoming module that will handle 3 inputs "properly"
also to note.. for anyone interested ... the pelcos do not come with lenses.. which is why i have been searching used packages
A genlock is a part of a device that can lock the internal sync of that device to an external video signal. It can only lock to one external signal.

The LZX, and the upcoming Jones video synth, each have a sync generator that provides sync to the modules in the system and is capable of locking that sync to an external image.

Alternately you could have a video camera with a genlock in it that can lock itself to the sync of the video synth. You can have several cameras, each with a genlock, and have each of them lock to the video synth. That way you can feed in several cameras and have them all be in sync with the system.

The other way to feed in multiple cameras is to feed each of them through a Time Base Corrector. A TBC is sort of a digital re-syncing device that can adjust the video signal in real time so that it is in sync with an external device like a video synth. So you could feed several cameras through several TBCs and have them all be in sync with the video synth. The drawback is that a TBC is complicated and often more expensive than a genlockable camera.

If you already have cameras that you like, which don't genlock, or have other image sources such as multiple DVD players, then TBCs make sense. But if you are able to find low cost cameras with genlocks in them, then you can feed multiple cameras into the video synth without the added expense of multiple TBCs.
how would one get multiple cameras into the LZX since the VSG only has one video input? ive used a few vhs camcorders plugged into my LZX system and its worked great so im curious as to how/why a genlockable camera is really needed
multiple simultaneous video feeds.. on screen at the same time..

so much possibility there.. key cameras with keys from other cameras Dead Banana

with future possible switching/sequencing style modules. you can have all your cuts from camera to camera automated with in the LZX

would it be possible to do "Polyphony" video sources with multiple Color Video Encoders? Theory is to do multiple patches on the same system and run them out as multiple video signals to a video mixer.

With the LZX system you get multiple cameras in using his upcoming Color Video Interface, or with several of his upcoming Color Video Decoder/Frame Synchronizers. You get multiple outputs using more than one encoder module.

With my upcoming video synth modules you have the Quad Input Amp modules to feed in multiple cameras or externally locked sources, and the TBC modules to feed in non-genlocked sources. Outputs are through the Output Amp modules. They will come in single and quad versions, with no limit to the number used.

Colorizing in my system happens in encoder based, and non-encoder based colorizer modules, and you can have any number of them you wish. My encoders and colorizer modules are not the system output. They are just processing modules within the system that can be mixed, keyed, switched, or otherwise combined with other modules before finally exiting the system through the Output Amps.

Yup! 2 CVE's is excellent. Another great reason to have an extra one is to use as a preview monitor. I've been keeping any un-synced oscillators wired to the "preview" encoder so I can get a better grasp on their scrolling speeds within a patch. Very very useful.

If you're familiar with the Supernova 12 video synthesizer, a lot of its output is characteristic of it having 2 encoders and a video mixer built into the system.
