Are the other 2 bands you mentioned similar to Emptyset? Was told of Emptyset in my Minimal Techno thread and they're by far the most exciting thing I have heard in a while. Totally my kind of techno!! Would be highly interested in hearding somewhat similar acts. And also yeah, learning how they hell they make that music :)

Sturqen seems to be (almost has a Trent Reznor doing soundtracks feel to it)

loving Sturqen lately as well. no idea what they're using, but you might be able to get an idea from this video if you're able to lighten it up a bit (it's too dark for me to see anything).

i'd definitely recommend Plaster, also on the Kvitnu label, though they're quite a bit more refined.

I saw Emptyset live and they used an MPC-1000 and I think a Nord Micro Modular, and a truckload of compressors

I dunno if it's quite the same but Emtyset was suggested to me cuz I like Demdike Stare and Andy Stott. That stuff is real nice!

Heard any Millie & Andrea? Collab between Miles of Demdike and Andy Stott.

I remember being really into designer drugs a few years ago, remember seeing something on their myspace page about it all being software software software!

I just got into Emptyset off of their new album.

There's an interview here:
http://exclaim.ca/Interviews/WebExclusive/emptyset

where James Ginzburg discusses their process on that record a bit. It sounds like an awesome experience.

Figured designer drugs was all software. I heard somewhere that emptyset's album before medium was made using a single signal chain.

Oh man. I didn't realize Designer Drugs had a Justin Pearson connection.

That man is my hero.

Yeah the album doesnt impress me so much sound design wise, its more about the song writing and style of it per se. Especially the Pearson track.

I won’t apologise for necroing this thread as good music doesn’t get old, and I have enjoyed exploring these. Kvitnu are having a 50% off sale at the moment.

sorry that i stopped buying their physical releases a few years back, looks like they're mostly sold out now (even the more recent stuff). i had been pretty nuts about collecting everything they did for a good few years, pretty much anything related to the label/artists that i could find.
