Author gimme some 300 series jams
dogoftears
I don't own a Wiard 300 but i've always wanted to. Perhaps one day I will.
I would love to hear audio and/or video of some 300 series jams or demos. There is a lack of them on youtube and even in this subforum.

I'm sure you guys make recordings with this stuff, can I pretty please listenz?? I used a system in person once (Bryan Carrigan's) and it was one of my favorite things ever...

i think that's the point of this thread then... i rarely see 300 audio posted.
come on 300 Wigglers! hit the big red button!

Perfect timing on this thread. I get my first two modules this week! A waveform city and a dual borg! Ive dreamed of a 300 system for so long. My ultimate plan (itll take awhile) will be 8 300 series and 2 rows of euro wiard/malekko.

we're not worthy Wiard

Congrats!! Guinness ftw!

I definitely have some stuff posted. Either on sound cloud or my rarely used blog http://oldsocksandnewtoys.blogspot.com

Thanks. I love it and it's my main modular despite the fact that I have choices here. The Wiard is amazing.

Jez Creek AKA Modulator ESP and myself jamming to Vertov's "Man with a Movie Camera" last month. All of the sequencer bits were done on the 300-series box0r. Wiardists may recognise the wogglebug noise at the beginning as well.

Wow Norman! That is awesome. Thank you this is exactly what i meant with my OP. wonderful sounds and a cool video. what other gear is being used? the Wiard looks beautiful there on your right.

If I may make one criticism: MWaMC is one of my favorite films and i think your performance renders it as background imagery, rather then focusing on the film itself. I could go a step further and say that an MWaMC soundtrack "should" be more percussive/rhythmic or less melodramatic, but whatever. I am not criticizing the quality of yr performance/music, more like the juxtaposition of the music with the film. Did you play for the entirety of the film? Is it improvised, structured, both?

Also whoever the projectionist is it looks like they used the wrong sized gate so the perfs on the print are showing!

I'm just completing another virtually all Wiard track.

The ones already up are;

Clockwork UFO
Through the Gates
This house is like a Ship
I thought I had lost my Friend

They are generally more on the experimental side(ish). The new one is more on the melodic side.

All are at Soundclick (see below)

Cool stuff, Mark!
chamomileshark
oh and these are for two seperate projects.

it's a pity I've yet to finish the latest Wiard track because that shows the capabilities within a more conventional melodic structure. Here's one of the sequences within it just on it's own.

[s]http://soundcloud.com/chamomile-shark/la-belle-sequence[/s]

In the meantime two more experiemental things, both are just Wiard plus a couple of other modules

Permutations - it's a single "voice" - ie one FM'd oscillator to LPG to VCA - with the pitch, envelope shape being modulated.

[s]http://soundcloud.com/chamomile-shark/permutations[/s]

Meadow. Several runs of different grasshopper, mosquitos, bee and bird sounds. Needs remixing as there are too many mosquitos

Well...there's a bit of a backstory - I had originally compiled a set of berkeley routines & tempo mapped the sequencer parts to them but when I got to Jez' place the night before the gig the DVD was fucked so we had to find something quickly, hence "MWaMC". Although I like that one, if I were to play to a silent (have accompanied "Faust" and "Hotel Imperial" before, the latter very successful) and had to pick one I would have chosen "Beggars of Life" or "The Woman Disputed", and if I'd known we were doing MWaMC, I would have programmed sequences to match the action, probably more percussive like you said. so yeah, it was a bit backdropy really, though not from choice.

I used a Korg Lambda and an Alesis Ion, Jez had a Blofeld, and an Akai....something, I can't remember the model number. I also used my Blacet modular for a later sequence. a 2-modular gig! Decadent.

We had a similar thread here before (which is not meant to mean "do a search", but rather "here's a whole bunch of great Wiard stuff!"):

fester
if you feel like engaging in some web archeology there are still quite a few soundfiles of 300-series provenance here:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/wiardgroup/files/

The yahoo group rules are still in force but they're pretty toothless by current standards.

happy hunting

thanks everyone for your responses. let's keep this thread alive!
i'm going through chamomile's files now.

this one is awesome. id love to hear a piece that started like this and veeeerrrryyy slowly divulged itself into wiggle/woggle sounds of the abstract nature.

Yes, I thought that too.

Unfortunately after I had taken the patches apart.

But no matter, it was supposed to be a naturalistic piece

excellent stuff rico!

that was awesome! excellent use of the stereo field mr. loverde.
one of the nicest 300 audio posts i've heard here.
rico loverde
thank you very much Roycie and dogoftears!!!! this is the first time Ive had a panning module in my modular. i dont know how i got by with out one before.
slow_riot
and not just any panning module... the Mixo is very very special.

Hook your Boogie up to it, preferably with some VCAs and summing in between. Incredible stereo imaging, is all I can say.

can you elaborate a little on that patch...very interested to try it out.
slow_riot
In the simplest form possible, take a single oscillator with plenty of harmonics and send this to a boogie. Put 6db into one side of mixolator and 12db into the other.

As you turn Z pot you can hear the stereo image change. When they are both apart with one on each side you get a slightly brighter tone on one side and a darker tone on the other. But as you change the Z control, when they meet at the middle they both mix and create a bandpass output right in the middle of your speakers.

So if you elaborate on this, and use all the outputs of the Boogie, and put each one through their own VCAs, or maybe through extra filters or effects, and control Z with voltage. Then you get a fully morphing fluctuating stereo image.

JAG can help for the VCAs after the Boogie outputs (I like envelator into one side of JAG and woggle smooth into the other, Dome to Z). And swap the single oscillator with some nice dynamic depth FM.

man that is such a beautiful patch idea. will have to true it later this week.
i have gotten amazing formanty sounds from the boogie by mixing the outputs in a bipolar mixer.

Here are a few 300 series demo's. I'll be adding more as I familiarize myself with the instrument.

Reviving an old thread. Anyone made any new work with their 300 system?

Just worked out this patch tonight, pretty fun excerpt.

I've been patching a bunch with my 300 especially since my omni filter arrived yesterday. Ill try to record my current patch tomorrow and post it

Amazing, please do share Rico. The world needs more Omni Filter sounds! Congrats! w00t

I was jamming a patch last night. Will try and record and post when I get home later. 8_)

Remove the "s" from "https", and soundcloud embedding should work!
otoskope
And thanks for nice track!

Unfortunately I've slipped back into my bad ways that means I'm now rotating work on about 5 tracks rather than working sequentially.

I think the next Wiard track to finish is "Beyond". It's one of the few times my wife has asked me to close my door and the cat has cried to get out of the room. I find it quite restful.
laserpalace
otoskope
Thanks for the tip!

MrTea
I'd love to hear it.

chamomileshark
I know how that goes, I'm balancing three different projects with partially finished work for each. It's hard to stay on track! Can't wait to hear Beyond!
laserpalace
One more quick one. Experimenting with chaotic functions within the Envelator.

[s]http://soundcloud.com/365-patches/envelator-city[/s]
slow_riot
nice patch! I've been trying to combine the techniques that you apply with percussive Borgs by using mixers to combine tonal signals with low freqeuncy square pings, and modulating the filters in a similar way that you are but I ran out of ModMixes to use! It's a nice combination. Another thing to use instead of a ping is a saw wave into a VCA so you get the tonal signal with an added ping.

I love the percussive style but if I don't have something droning away something is not right.
laserpalace
laserpalace
Thanks! I'm glad you are experimenting with some of my patch examples. I'm still very fixated by the Wiard being such a perfect percussion generator. It really is a machine right in between dance music and the avant garde. I'm actually using a Saw in this patch to open one of the Borgs which I'm running in tandem. I'll probably break it down on my website this weekend.

I'd love to hear your mix of percussive drone! I have a hard time "droning" but it's usually what I'm listening to.
slow_riot
I abandoned the percussion mixed with drone thing, getting back to just borgs, wogglebug and mixo. I think you are right, these modules are really extremely deep with regard to percussion. And the textures and expressive density are really special.
laserpalace
Here's a little live piece, somewhat inspired by Steve Reich. It's entirely 300 except for some timing influence via the wonderful 4MS Rotating Clock Divider. All note data was created by the Sequantizer, main voice utilizing the Mellotron Bank on the Waveform City. (I love that chorus effect!). Some reverb via Ableton.

[s]http://soundcloud.com/365-patches/four-voice-system[/s]
dogoftears
wow Laserpalace, that was awesome, very nice work. music for 18 wogglebugs w00t w00t

very horn like sounds, beautiful call and response between the voices, awesome sequencing.
flts
i love that four voice system clip, listened thru a few times already. thanks, it'll give me some inspiration while i wait for my modules to arrive lol
laserpalace
dogoftears, flts

Thank you! It's mostly a practice in timing and dynamics. I grew up playing a variety of stringed instruments so this was an attempt to translate similar dynamics into the modular world. It definitely has some horn/pizzacato string timbres as well.

MUSIC FOR 18 WOGGLE BUGS NEEDS TO HAPPEN. That would be some complex minimalism.
causticlogic
okay...this is the first time i have shared anything here but i thought it'd be fun to post something.
this is the patch i have been working on with the recently acquired 300 system that i sold like half my gear (and most of my euro) for...
it's still a work in progress. it sounds subpar because it is one track, one take, no effects. it's all 300 though.
i don't know why i chose that title. it just seemed appropriate somehow.
