who likes?

I do.

Me, too. Just stumbled across his work a few days ago.

roland kayn is absolutely THE man... just incredible stuff. it's a shame in a way his best stuff is unavailable now, despite there being tons of cds out on his own label. i bought the lp boxsets in the late 80's at, of all places, a supermarket in germany. i've been obsessed with him since. so sad that he has passed, btu he kept doing things until the end, some of his later works are kind of confounding. there was a 4cd version of Tektra, but if you have a chance, definitely check out Infra. Any of the older releases are just meticulous and fantastic.
Kalerne
Yes ! Great works ! But I wish some label could remaster/reissue his LP.
steamroom
i know that there are some talks afoot about reissuing the classics of his, but it"s still formative, but looking good...hope so! everyone needs to hear his stuff, it's monstrous.

indeed!
i can directly blame my obsession with modulars to this picture, haha. but true!
if i can get my old scanner up and running i will post some other pictures from the records, just nuts....
Mood Organ
Glad others are listening to him. I found out about him a year or two ago. Most of his stuff is obscenely rare & expensive, but this can be had for a non-insane price:

Then you can power up to the Tektra 4CD.

Sonically he reminds me of Maryanne Amacher sometimes. Any other relevant artists here? "Cybernetic music"ians?

I wish we knew more about his patching technique. Anyone want to translate all those German liner notes? thumbs up
narwhal
i love his stuff, he seems a bit unsung imo + i've never seen a modular as wildly patched as that one.
Reese P. Dubin
What the hell is behind all those wires.
And yes I agree, RK is totally fantastic and dense and deep and lovely.

Kayns music was payed in Paradiso (old church) at the Sonic Acts festival in Amsterdam. (mesmerised me)

here's a radio special where Kayn talks in Dutch with nice German accent:
http://www.vpro.nl/programma/cafesonore/afleveringen/14196545/

and here's Leo Küpper with his system in the Van Gogh museum.

He worked toghether with Kayn.
And their systems look alike.
I'd really like to learn more about this.

From Kayn's site:

The broadcast of "Milky Way" can be listened to again via the following links:

curious if anyone here has any more specific information about kayn's work..concrete descriptions of how and what he was configuring, rather than general ideas about cybernetics and feedback..
narwhal
great link. I'll have to check out that book. Many thanks for sharing.

@howdareyou?

Any word on whether any of this stuff is gonna get reissued?

Been listening to Tektra (so good) and I'm kind of dying to hear Infra and Makro, but it's going for insane money on discogs.

Don't think it's in the pipeline tbh

Looks like his website has been overhauled and there's also a new webshop...which is selling Tektra, Makro and Infra LP's for €299 each..ouch

Hopefully there's a cheaper version..anybody have a rip of Makro or Infra for the time being?

No details yet, but it's very much in the works - watch Important Records in 2017.

"Also, we’re working very closely with a few artist archives and you’ll be seeing the first of many releases from Tod Dockstader, Roland Kayn and Alvin Lucier plus a new Sonambient LP, more from Pauline Oliveros, Eliane Radigue and many of my personal favorite artists on the label."

That's awesome - Important Records would make a great home for Kayn. Hope they reissue the early out-of-print stuff.
de_raaf
Great if that will happen, love to see reissues of the early lp boxes, but than if it on vinyl I guess it will be stupid limited
steamroom
Kayn fans will want to get this for sure....

Vink was kayn's engineer and designed a lot of the systems he was using. take a listen to the excerpt...sound familiar?
this has been in the works for quite a while now, and this is seriously going to blow all your minds.

there is some progress in getting the Kayn's reissued now..things are a little bit in flux, but moving faster than they have in years..
